Position Summary:
The Sr. Network Engineer will report to the Network Infrastructure Manager and be responsible for supporting the LAN/WAN network infrastructure located at 10-12 locations throughout BCBSMA. The candidate will need to have demonstrated production support, design, planning, implementation and troubleshooting expertise, practices and strategies with experience in medium to large network infrastructures. The Network Team is responsible for configuring and managing Cisco routers and switches, and Cisco Series Content Services Switches (CSS) and Arrowpoint devices to load balance high volume Internet/E-Commerce traffic infrastructure for the production, development, and quality assurance environments. The scope of responsibility for this team begins at the design, planning, implementation and proactive monitoring of network equipment to support existing and new applications. It includes security/performance monitoring, configuration management, and issue escalation and resolution.

Major Responsibilities
As a member of the network services team, the Sr. Network Engineer will participate in the overall responsibility for the management of all networking assets in all BCBSMA production facilities including engineering, specification, maintenance, troubleshooting and performance tuning to meet aggressive Business SLA?s. Responsibilities include WAN Engineering, capacity planning, traffic engineering, circuit acceptance and troubleshooting coupled with proposing enhancements to the network architecture and lead deployment efforts. The Sr. Network Engineer will be required to work with internal customers to develop network solution requirements during scope definition phases of all projects. Work with internal customers to develop technical solutions during solutions design phase. Work with PM?s to understand project priorities and help sequence network implementations and modifications accordingly. Communicate within project teams to set network deliverables and expectations (time/resource requirements). Effectively identify and communicate risks during course of projects

Qualifications
  • Experience with design, planning and trouble-shooting network related problems in an enterprise environment with expertise in Cisco Routers, Switches, Load Balancers, and Intrusion Detection. Must have experience with Cisco 7200, 3600 and 2600 series routers, and 6509 & 8540 switches.
  • Strong working knowledge of network/internet Protocols/Services such as VoIP, SONET, ATM, GigE, 10/100 Ethernet, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, DNS, TCP/IP, IPSec and NAT.
  • Proven experience in leading large to small technical projects with demonstrated oral and written ability to communicate with team members. Must know when to ask for assistance, and when to give assistance. Must be approachable, teachable, a team player with a strong desire to continue learning and expanding their experience in a highly evolving security focused environment.
  • Willingness to work beyond core business hours, if necessary to minimized business interruption during planned or unplanned security system modifications.
  • Possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.


Education/Relevant Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or related field or requisite job experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a network and/or security engineering role or equivalent network architectural capacity with proven experience in enterprise network architecture, management, capacity planning & monitoring.
  • Cisco Certifications such as CCNP, CCNA, and/or CCDA are required.
  • Experience within healthcare and familiarity with the health care/managed care data model is a plus.
