Senior Optical Engineer (Optical Network)

Location:      Manhattan or Brooklyn

Duration:      5 year contract

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

*         Design and configuration of Cisco 15454 OADM as required.

*         Implement new processes/functions on optical devices as required, including SONET, RPR and DWDM.

*         Provide advanced-level technical support for network problems as reported to the Helpdesk.  Document steps taken to create problem tickets and resolve problems. 

*         Participate in problem review meetings at the discretion of the Network engineering manager. 

*         Provide advanced network support in new project development. Provide technical assistance on the feasibility of new projects. Participate in developing implementation plans. Actively participate in optical networking community to keep abreast of issues pertaining to advancements in optical networking

Experience/Skills
Tailwind Associates seeks an optical engineer with a minimum of 8 years networking experience of which consultant should have at least 3 years experience in fiber optic network infrastructure.
? The major skills and experience required are expert knowledge of Cisco 15454 installations in multiple ring configurations.
? Expert knowledge of Cisco routers and switches is required to develop network designs and network implementation strategies for the near future.
? The consultant must demonstrate expert knowledge of optical networking industry standards, protocols and evolving standards including, but not limited to WDW, DWDM, SONET, and RPR.
? The consultant must have documented experience in working with multiple networking systems and a broad range of diagnostic and network management tools, e.g., fiber optic test equipment, distributed sniffers, NAM modules, and other troubleshooting hardware and software tools.
? Prior experience with an optical network of similar size, complexity and equipment is highly desirable.
