Job Description Position Summary:

The position is responsible for database software implementation and upgrades, physical database design and implementation, database capacity and performance management, development and implementation of database backup and recovery plans, and problem identification and resolution working independently, requiring minimal direction and follow-up.

This position also provides leadership in the use of relational database management systems to application development teams and is responsible for obtaining and maintaining knowledge of current trends and directions related to the employed database management systems and management tools.

In addition, this position assists junior team members, and seeks to enhance the database environment by identifying areas of improvement, sharing information and assisting in educating other members of the database team.




Experience/Skills
Minimum of 6 years recent experience performing as an Oracle Database Administrator.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
are required.
Full knowledge of and experience with the following is also required:
Oracle 9i &8i,
Oracle software installation and upgrade
Database performance monitoring and tuning
Database backup and recovery
Database troubleshooting and problem resolution
Database capacity planning, physical database design and implementation
Oracle Replication and Oracle Partitioning
NET8
Capable of working with several departments to design and implement complete database solutions.
Must also be capable of working independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
Educational requirements include a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent.


Optional knowledge includes:
Oracle 10g
Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Parallel Query and database performance monitoring and tuning tools
Logical database design,
database design tools, PL/SQL,
Java programming and Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and above.

How many databases--About 100
What backup and recovery tools do you use? We use many tools, Oracle RMAN, EMC BCV backups, Veritas tape backups
What is the operating system? We also use many UNIX flavors, Solaris, AIX, and HP Team size? The team is currently 5, and we are looking to add 2.

MUST HAVES:

Large database experience--minimum supporting db in terabytes. Their db is 60 terabytes.
Full Cycle experience and if a manager, must be hands on.
Will sub Real App Clusters for Data Warehousing, but must have one or the other

Other desired skills:
Minimum of 6 years recent experience performing as an Oracle Database Administrator.
