SUMMARY

The Database Administrator is responsible for installing, maintaining, monitoring, tuning, and back up and restoration of all Oracle instances. In addition the Oracle DBA will be required to learn additional DBA job duties as needed for Progress, MSSQl, and Mysql for the Operations department.

This position will be considered an Oracle expert and is expected to recommend and implement changes to systems to ensure optimum performance and reliability. Must be able to perform all aspects of Oracle (8i,9i,10g) database administration on multiple platforms including Solaris, Linux, and SCO Unix.

This position supports a 24x7 operation and therefore requires additional hours and to carry a pager to support the systems.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required by business needs.

1. Oracle backup and recovery.
2. Application and database performance tuning
3. Application and database monitoring
4. Maintenance of database integrity
5. Installation and upgrades of Oracle products
6. Installation of Oracle patches
7. Automation of database related tasks
8. Recommendation and implementation of industry best practices
9. Policies and procedures development
10. System growth planning

Experience/Skills
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 5 years of managing Oracle database installs in a 24/7 production environment.
Experience with RMAN, OEM, Streams, Advanced Replication
Experience supporting a 24x7 Production environment
Experience with high availability databases
Interest in learning other database systems
Unix Scripting experience
Excellent problem solving skills
Experience with Sun Solaris and Linux systems.


EDUCATION:

Four year degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent job experience.
