Sr. Reporting Systems Engineer

Disney Interactive Media Group is the division of The Walt Disney Company responsible for the global creation and delivery of Disney branded interactive entertainment and informational content across multiple platforms including online, mobile and video game consoles.

POSITION SUMMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • eCommerce reporting which includes developing new reports, maintenance of manual reports and processes, and working though semi-automation of these processes with a longer term vision of automating these reports through Micro Strategy
  • Developing analytical solutions to business problems through the design and programming of Micro Strategy and /or data warehouse constructs and presentation layers
  • Develop Micro Strategy dashboards and reports to visualize key insights, trends and monitor the performance of key metrics
  • Design, model, and develop data sets to support analysis
  • Recognizing and managing technical dependencies and/or limitations that impact analytic work
  • Generate Ad-Hoc queries and reports based on business requirements
  • Working with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and then translate requirements in BI reporting area – either recommending an existing solution, developing a solution, or synthesizing requirement for delivery to engineering teams for development
  • Actively question and challenge customers to understand their requirements and reach the best solutions, near term and long term
  • Understands and adheres to development and documentation standards, database design and storage
  • Successfully implementing process improvements impacting own work and work of others
  • Performs technical proof of concepts
  • On-call application support may be required

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years Micro Strategy development and Modeling experience
  • 2+ years Data warehouse/Data Mart design experience
  • 5 + years technology experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or a related field; or equivalent experience
  • Must contribute to overall team success; committed to building a strong team
  • Must be a self motivated, team player that thrives in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical aptitude required
  • Experience contributing to project task prioritization, planning, estimating, work assignment, & quality assurance at every stage of a project
  • Experience with media, entertainment, or internet business models a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple, conflicting, high priority requests
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively on extremely tight deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment
  • Ability to venture into new functional/technology areas and learning on the fly
  • Micro Strategy certification a plus

    SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong experience with of Micro Strategy modeling and development.
  • Designing/building information delivery solutions using various Micro Strategy products including Desktop, Web, Office, Report Services, Intelligence server and Narrowcast server.
  • Must have strong data modeling experience to support reporting and analysis.
  • Analysis and creation of logical data models (normalized and dimensional data models) using industry standard tools including robust data definitions.
  • Strong experience with SQL required. Must be able to troubleshoot and provide support of the Data warehouse/ODS BI environment on Micro strategy.
  • Thorough knowledge of T-SQL required. Must be able to generate Ad-Hoc queries and reports on OLTP and DW systems based on business requirements.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical associates a must.
  • VLDB experience with multiple relational databases such as Netezza, Teradata, Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server.
  • Experience with and knowledge of multiple Data Warehouse/Data Mart architectures.
  • Experience with performance and scalability design and testing.
  • Experience with relational and dimensional DB design and development.
  • Functional knowledge of OLTP and OLAP architectures, methods and processes as they relate to Data Warehouse input/output design.
  • Knowledge of ETL process architecture, design and implementation.
  • SQL Server- DTS, SSIS and Stored procedures experience desirable
  • Customer-centric Data experience desirable
  • Experience in Advanced Analytics a plus
  • DBA and operational experience a plus
