Want to use your SQL Wizardry to make big impact at the country's largest provider of Stock Market education? Come be part of a world-class team to help spearhead the data services department. You have the opportunity to design and enforce standard development practices, automate the process of maintaining separate code bases for Development/Test/QA, optimize existing procedures, develop new ones, etc. You will have the latitude to recommend other activities to improve overall performance, reliability, and security of our Enterprise Data assets.
We expect confidence dealing with complex problems and messy data, and the ability to analyze business processes and develop creative solutions that deliver immediate impact to the bottom line. While this is a high-stress and deadlines oriented environment, senior management significantly values data services, has invested greatly on our behalf, and does everything possible to ensure our success, including investing in cutting-edge software and hardware tools. Additionally, you have an opportunity to learn more about the stock market with access to our options trading software and education services.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • SQL 2005 (and 2008)/SSIS
  • Expert level SQL skills with highly complex stored procedures (7-10+ yrs). This is a largely undocumented environment full of dynamic SQL, cursors and tricky aggregation techniques. Expect to code SQL 4+ hours a day. Willingness to perform DBA duties, performance tuning, code promotion, data migration scripts, data validation, and in general get your hands dirty.
  • Some familiarity with .NET and C# to facilitate interaction with a team of 20+ developers. Ability to analyze Embedded SQL provided by developers, detect potential performance issues, and suggest improvements impacting SQL execution plans. Should also be able to help developers adhere to best industry practices in the way their code interacts with the data environment.
  • Ability to consume and create XML docs.
  • Familiarity with a variety of database performance analysis tools, such as Quest Spotlight, TOAD for SQL, DBArtisan or other tools that you have found effective and can recommend. This also includes an ability to interpret the results from these tools and apply them effectively to enterprise systems. Data modeling proficiency is a big plus.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance on a loosely defined business problem. Meet with end users and understand processes. Suggest process optimization and provide the data to prove your idea.
  • The willingness to listen and observe, seeking to understand. Ability to persist and be flexible within in a fast paced, unstructured, and changing environment.
  • Expected to be on call 24/7 as required (to deal with critical but infrequent events) thru remote assistance.
