Description

Local candidates preferred Position Description: Senior level development position that works primarily in design, coding, testing, and supporting software products and related materials to meet customer requirements. Position implies extensive technical expertise coupled with ingenuity, product knowledge, industry knowledge, and leadership skills. Position works in a variety of disciplines, stressing the ability to analyze business processes. Performs tasks using formal software development methodologies and specified R&D and/or departmental procedures. Makes decisions regarding intra-project priorities. Works with the documentation and QA groups to complete development process. Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical and consulting leadership to medium to large teams of systems developers and other project staff.
  • Reviews plans, requirements, designs and code for appropriateness and provides suggestions for improvement.
  • Actively participates in the integration, testing and troubleshooting of teams' products using internal tests on location and at customer test sites.
  • Acts as a key resource in problem identification and working it to resolution.
  • Develops requirements, designs and implantations and tests the critical system software products to meet product requirements.
  • Provides leadership in defining and improving processes and standards to ensure the quality of internal and client documentation.
  • Provides accurate estimates and status to management, raising issues appropriately.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems, demonstrate problem solving and resourcefulness in obtaining information.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and multiple tasks while coordinating several team members' activities.
  • Ability to provide leadership and communicate effectively verbally and through written documentation, meetings and presentations.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • 8+ years programming experience (Systems or Communication programming exp. helpful).
  • Proficiency in C programming and Linux Shell scripting.
  • Understanding of and ability to navigate the Linux operating system
  • Working knowledge of open systems architecture (including the ability to integrate open source and commercial tools into existing system architecture.)
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience with PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of Security tools, upgrade and migration mechanisms and performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience with large (1K to 10K users) multi-tier, server-based development projects.
  • Significant analysis and design experience as well as proven solution implementation.
  • Training and in-depth experience with formal software development methodologies and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively as a team leader and ability to resolve issues between team members.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines, often with time and resource constraints.
  • BS/BA degree (Computer Science preferred)
