Senior Server Development EngineerLocation: Los Gatos,CADescription:Rocket Mobile (www.rocketmobile.com) is looking for a seasoned senior server engineer to help lead the server development efforts to support our mobile client applications. We are looking for an engineer with an operations bent who also possesses strong web service development and database programming skills. You will help lead a team tasked to design, develop, deploy, and support multi-tier client-server applications for mobile handsets.Engineering is conducted in our Los Gatos offices.Responsibilities include: * Take a leadership role in architecting, developing, and deploying extensible server software in Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP/Perl * Plan the deployment of new co-located servers * Design, scope, and implement new services and scripts * Troubleshoot, optimize and performance tune server processes as needed * Help author/review functional specs, and design specs, and test plans for server features. * Select and integrate open source components and libraries and third party tools for rapid and efficient service developmentRequirements: * 5 years of software development experience * 3 years of experience in developing web, client-server, or multi-tiered enterprise software * 2 years of C/C experience * 2 years of PHP or Perl experience * 2 years of SQL experience * Strong knowledge of operating systems, server platforms, and data storage platforms * Strong knowledge of Linux system installation and configuration * Strong knowledge of server security, clustering, logical partitioning, back-up and recovery * Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking and routing including DHCP, DNS,and FTP * Ability to create, debug and maintain complex scripts * Familiarity of server performance analysis and tuning, QOS, and scalability issues * Understanding of server resource issues re. file I/O, socket contention, concurrency, and multithreading. * Expertise with Linux and Windows * Experience with JavaScript, DOM, HTML, AJAX, XML * Familiarity with OOAD and UML * Familiarity with source control and bug tracking toolsDesired Skills/Experience: * Proven track record of developing, deploying and supporting business critical multi-tier applications through multiple releases * Familiarity of software development processes and the software product lifecycle * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment * Ability to communicate risks, status, issues across teams. * Coding ability with strong analytical and problem solving skills * Debugging experience using PC-based tools/emulators * Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to wear many hats * Excellent written and verbal communication skills including technical writing skills * Experience with BREW is a plus * Experience with SVN or CVSEducation: * BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant discipline and experience.df-tc
