Description
Reporting to the Software Engineering Manger the Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, troubleshooting and debug of software programs for software enhancements and new products. Target applications include high performance imaging and analysis systems used in Semiconductor, Data Storage and MEMS laboratory and fabrication environments.

Specific Deliverables associated with this opportunity include:

? Learn the architecture of lab and fab systems for applicable NanoElectronics market segments.

? Conduct bug fixing on existing issues through software implementation, development of test methodologies and performing unit tests.

? Responsible for the coding of feature set developments for product enhancement and new applications.

? Develop control system, application, middleware and GUI software in support of FEI's lab and fab product platforms.

? Development of software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools.

? Maintain software development practices in ClearQuest/Clearcase.

? Write detailed software specifications based on system performance requirements and customer application requirements. Determine hardware compatibility and/or influence hardware design.

? Architect designs based on a full comprehension of the function, purpose and application of the product.

? Make practical development choices given limited design information and defined delivery schedules.

? Act as the authoritative owner of multiple functional characteristics and/or modules of the specified software application.


Position Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary technical environment to solve complex technical problems. If you enjoy the development of high-performance integrated systems, this is an excellent opportunity. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline. An advanced degree is not required but is highly desirable.

We are hiring for this job at 2 levels:

1) Software Engineer II (3-5 years experience and general knowledge of complex systems)

2) Sr. Software Engineer (6+ years experience plus domain knowledge)

Candidates with staff or principal level experience will also be considered.

Preference for development experience with highly-integrated, high-performance systems used in semiconductor capital equipment or related industries. At a minimum, development experience at the system level.

Must demonstrate clear ability to develop effective integration software for complex, high-performance subsystems and components (3 years experience required).

Clear ability to successfully automate hardware is required.

FEI has a variety of development environments. Qualified candidates should have proven ability to program using one or more of the following languages and techniques within the listed development environments:

Visual Basic
Visual C++
MFC
Object Oriented design
ATL
COM
Active X
Windows NT

Further preference given for hands on experience with one or more of the following areas:
? Development experience with Image/Pattern Recognition applications
? Factory Automation expertise, including knowledge of SEMI standards and SECS/GEM specifications, XML.
? Motion Control software development

Excellent interpersonal communications skills are required due to the high degree of interaction and collaboration across functional groups.
