POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Software Engineer works as part of the Engineering team building eCommerce web applications for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts web sites.

Responsibilities include participation in the full software development lifecycle including but not limited to software architecture, use case and object modeling, framework design and development, code development, detailed design documents and project plan task estimates. Development environment requires adherence to engineering QA practices including configuration management, source control, unit testing, integration testing, and documentation of code.

Work under the direction of Engineering Managers and Engineering Leads. Work directly with other engineers on application/technical problem identification and resolution. Test, debug and document all work. In Java development, code business logic to call API functions on external reservation and inventory systems, interpret responses and handle error conditions. Perform unit, integration and system testing.

Assist with the development of integration and acceptance test plans. Assist with performance and reliability testing, analysis and tuning. Log and resolve relevant engineering issues. Design and develop site administration and maintenance applications. Adhere to engineering standards including configuration management, source control, unit testing, integration testing and documentation of code.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience required
  • 4-7 years of full software development lifecycle experience
  • 4-7 years of Java development experience
  • 4-7 years of experience with Internet technologies
  • 4-7 years of Object-Oriented Analysis, Design and Development experience
  • Significant exposure to and demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of programming and analysis including design patterns, hardware and software requirements, systems requirements and deployment protocols

    SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Full-time/hands-on experience developing Java applications
  • Strong Internet technologies background including XML, Web Services etc.
  • Significant experience with commercial code and release management tools (e.g. – Sharepoint, Perforce, Clearcase, CVS) required
  • Experience in web site development required
  • Hands on software modeling experience (e.g. UML) and application of standard methodologies (e.g. RUP)
  • Experience with Application Servers required. Experience with the JBoss Application Server is strongly desired
  • J2EE experience (including Entity and Session EJBs, MDBs, JMS, JDBC etc) is strongly desired
  • Experience with UNIX / Linux shell scripting and SQL strongly desired
  • Experience with Relational Databases is required. Experience with Oracle is strongly desired
  • Able to Identify problems and opportunities, and champion solutions within the scope of own work
  • Ability to complete tasks on time and in budget within a climate of frequent market change and shifting needs; ability to do so with minimal management oversight
