Senior Software Engineer

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts operates and licenses eleven theme parks on three continents. It also operates 35 resort hotels, two luxury cruise ships, and a wide variety of other entertainment offerings.

The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online (WDPRO) Group oversees all of the online web activities, e-commerce, online attractions and informational sites representing the Walt Disney Company theme parks, resort hotel properties and cruise lines This includes handling all online pre-arrival arrangements, such as bookings. Consumers can also visit sites for exciting online simulations of experiences at theme parks and resorts. Although part of the Walt Disney Internet Group, the online technology group works closely with management at the WDPRO organization.

The Walt Disney Internet Group is part of the Walt Disney Company, one of the most of respected and successful entertainment companies in the world. The company also operates the ABC Television Network; ESPN Sports Network; the ABC Radio Networks; theme parks, resorts and cruise lines; television and radio stations. It provides programming for the cable television industry, publishes daily and weekly newspapers, shopping guides and specialized periodicals. Annual revenues exceed $27 billion.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Engineer candidate should excel in all components of the software development life cycle, with a focus towards Java programming. Additionally, this candidate should have a working familiarity with web development designs and patterns. The individual in this role should possess strong technical knowledge of technical infrastructure as well as the ability to act as a technical advisor for Web Developers and for other Engineers. This position will also act as the technical lead in projects, which involves representing technology in a team revolving around technical, creative, and business functions and solutions, as well as leading the focus, design, and developmental of code.

In some cases, the Software Engineer will be expected to act as engineering lead over a small team of engineers during a project, creating design documents, use cases, work flows and modules of work. This position will also work closely with the Systems Engineering team to document, design and enhance the hardware and networking infrastructure.

The Software Engineer will also design and develop applications to support the Web Developers on the team. This individual will also help design and develop tools to facilitate deployment and maintenance of production systems, as well as performing code and design reviews across the Web Development team. Additionally, this position will work closely with the QA team in support of integration and acceptance testing, as well as assisting with the development of QA test plans.

Also, this candidate should continuously act to enhance and refine the technical infrastructure and process in order to adapt to and foresee advances in process, methodology, application, and development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5-7 years of Java development experience and other related Internet technologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of analysis and programming including design, hardware and software requirements, system requirements, deployment procedures and engineering practices
  • Hands-on experience with the support of new and legacy systems
  • Experience with managing and implementing hardware installations, and a good understanding of a wide variety of communications protocols

  • Windows NT/2k, Microsoft IIS
  • Source code versioning and management tools such as Perforce, SourceSafe, CVS, or ClearCase
  • Experience with MVC frameworks such as Spring or Struts
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PERL, ANT, shell, etc.
  • Experience with Application Servers such as Barista, Tomcat and/or JBoss
  • Database experience such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.
  • Design language experience such as UML
  • Experience with JDBC, SQL, SOAP, XML, XSD, XSLT, JMS, MVC
  • Experience in templating languages such as PHP, ASP, JSP, etc.
  • An articulate and confident communicator
  • Demonstrated ability as a creative thinker
