Works independently on problems of diverse scope and is capable of independently executing complex development assignments, including design of conceptual approach, coding and debugging. Exercises independent judgment on issues related to multiple products. Generally considers business and long range technical issues in addition to specific product issues. Actively participates in product planning and requirements specification generation. May supervise other engineers on a project basis and provide technical leadership. Is expected to have independent judgment on marketing, customer and business issues. This engineer is a professional programmer with a record of well designed and implemented products.

Works toward intermediate and long-term objectives where inaccurate decisions could delay projects or programs. Exercises project or subproject leadership and may provide technical supervision for other professional staff.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining software architectures for the following services: mail, news, web hosting and ftp. The team focuses on server-side development using primarily C and C++ in a UNIX environment. Long-term responsibilities include ensuring continuing scalability to meet growth forecasts and implementation of systems to support any new products or services.

Experience/Skills
Required Experience:
BS or MS degree in Computer Science.
3+ years of experience in designing and coding system-level software for Unix using C, C++, and shell scripts (server side
development)
Experience with network / internet programming.
Experience with designing, coding and implementing system protocols.
Ability to execute under pressure, works on multiple projects, and meets product/project deadlines.
Solid communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical resources.

Additional Experience a Plus:
Knowledge of mail systems (i.e. sendmail, qmail, postfix, qpopper).
Knowledge of prevailing protocol standards for providing email (SMTP, POP3, IMAP) and news (NNTP).
Experience with directory services (LDAP).
Experience working with Java, SOAP, and PERL script.
Experience with XML programming in Java.
Knowledge of Log4j, JMX, JavaGroups.
Experience working with database and LDAP programming in Java (JDBC, JNDI).
Experience working with JSP/Servlet, SOAP, SSL, and PERL script.

Other Considerations or Information:
Some travel may be necessary. Experience working with geographically diverse groups is a plus.
