  • Job Description:
    Position will be responsible for participating in solving problems, including analysis, diagnosis, problem resolution and testing for problems as it pertains to Information Security and the team responsible for security infrastructure and systems. The candidate must have a strong security technology background and experience in developing and interpreting security policies and regulations. The candidate must effectively understand possible technical solutions submitted by peers and derived from research and provide a resultant best direction from a technical basis. The candidate must also be able to lead and/or delegate the resolution of network and system testing, typically on complex problems as well as to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of reliable network and security server systems and services to ESPN employees. Proficiency with Cisco networking equipment, application and proxy firewalls, network load balancers, email routing and Anti-SPAM systems as well as systems monitoring is a must.


    Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day administration and maintenance of ESPN’s network system environments; participates in the planning, operation, upkeep and maintenance of the infrastructure to run ESPN’s business;
  • Assists with the administration of the infrastructure; coordinates and / or performs upgrades to system hardware and software, including drive and processor upgrades, and operating systems updates and service packs; coordinates the activities of technicians involved in the deployment and configuration of the servers and network; coordinates with vendors on moves and re-locations of systems / equipment
  • Provides support to remote production staff; participates in planning for and in building local Ethernet networks and servers for special ESPN projects, e.g., X-Games; assists in troubleshooting local Ethernet networks, etc.
  • Participates in planning or plans for the server infrastructure; participates in evaluating or evaluates new server technologies; participates in researching network and system configurations for future implementation; participates in designing or designs and implements features of ESPN’s server network
  • Participates in ensuring or ensures that all security requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Monitors the performance of systems; maintains system configuration history of changes; troubleshoots and may participate in repairing systems problems and failures; participates in leading or leads the maintenance of systems, installs software patches, to resolve and avoid service problems; troubleshoots network problems as they relate to these services
  • Coordinates and prioritizes the on-site activities of technicians
  • Coordinates the testing and deployment of patches, hotfixes, and their prioritization
  • Participates in the frequent re-evaluation of the enterprise for the purpose of adding security, and reducing cost and administration
  • Oversees change controls in support of the ITIL framework.
  • Assigned to multiple complex problems simultaneously that require considerable flexibility and creativity with new approachesdf-tc

    Experience/Skills
    Required Qualifications:
    • Has current knowledge of security trends, technology advances, new products, and best practices in network and computing security and its processes
    • Has in-depth knowledge of industry best practices and standards in IT Security
    • Typically has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or similar field of study
    • Has hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems with regards to security and best practices. Can plan for, design, and implement said systems in a secure operating environment. Furthermore, has comprehensive knowledge of firewalls, Cisco routers and switches, VPN technologies, and TCP packet analysis.
    • Has hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of multiple scripting languages and can apply this knowledge with the purpose of the monitoring, analyzing and reporting on network utilization, traffic trends, and potential issues.
    • Has hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of designing and implementing network security infrastructures.
    • Has hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of writing security ACLs.
    • Has hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of LAN to LAN and client VPN configurations and deployments.
    • Has hands-on experience and in-depth working knowledge of various security and networking technologies, including but not limited to, anti-spam, network load-balancers, application firewalls, proxy firewalls, wireless security, and packet capture analysis.
    • Has in-depth knowledge in best practices in network and computing security equipment, software/systems and processes to include ISO17799, ISO27001, risk management and mitigation.
