Senior Systems Administrator
Description:

This position is with a leading provider of Internet-based software and services, they are up a small, but talented, development team in San Francisco.

They are looking for a talented UNIX/LINUX system administrator to assist the day-to-day design, support, and operation of the systems that serve our online systems. This administrator, is part of a team that ensures the continuous, 24x7x365 operation of their production systems, configurating and setup of new systems, as well as assisting with production uptime and performance issues.

Responsibilities:
Configure, install, maintain and tune OS on linux servers. Document configurations.
Implement enterprise-side configuration changes.
Maintain server and network security.
Manage problems dispatched by systems support analysts (NOC group).
Prioritize, coordinate and deliver special technology projects.
Recommend and requisition equipment and applications for server deployment.
Assisting in trend analysis, capacity planning, and budgeting for the technical infrastructure.
Server maintenance including software/hardware upgrades, performance tuning, problem determination, and repair.
Identify new tools/technologies that will make technical operations more efficient, reliable, and cost effective
Required to be part of a pager-rotation team, ensuring 24/7 production support.
IT of corporate LAN, in coordination with services provided by their corporate organization.
Travel to hosting sites if needed in emergencies.

Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting a large (50 servers+) 24x7 system, preferably customer-facing.
Very Strong LINUX & UNIX System Administration skills, preferably including RedHat and Solaris.
Proven ability to automate systems, relying on strong scripting experience. Preferably in Perl, Tk sh, and/or Python.
A strong sense of ownership, and feeling of responsibility to provide a fast, reliability, service to our customers and clients.
Experience supporting and managing database administration on a variety of databases. Direct Oracle and MySQL experience preferred.
Experience managing services in a co-location environment.
B.S. in Computer Science or technical field preferred.
Travel Required:
10%-15%
