Senior Systems EngineerLocation: San Diego, CAJob Description: The Senior Systems Engineer will provide enterprise level design, implementation, management, and maintenance of all high-availability business and mission critical systems. This role will directly support all system components including operating, business, and messaging applications and servers. Utilizes system management techniques, software, and protocols in support of the business environment. Documents procedures related to position and systems operation functions. Responsibilities:*
  • Maintain and support large production and development environment. *
  • Install/configure new servers and applications. *
  • Work with a team to automate management tasks, streamline processes and perform standard administration functions as needed. Team coverage includes rotating pager duties and responding within 15 minutes for providing high service supporting 24x7x365 as needed. *
  • Monitor system performance, make recommendations to improve and implement system wide changes to enhance overall system proficiency. *
  • Validate deployment candidate package and write deployment plan. *

  • Assist in formulating security mechanisms to prevent, detect, and respond to internal and external security threats. *
  • Create and maintain a system level run book. *
  • Provide architectural input and capacity planning strategies to ensure system scalability and functionality. *
  • Assist in creating and maintaining Disaster Recovery Plans. *
  • Participate in software design and application meetings. *
  • Keep up-to-date on new developments in your field and be a technical lead and resource to mentor others. *
  • Create test plans for newly developed areas within our system.*
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, perform root cause analysis and apply appropriate solutions. *
  • Author technical documentation using MS Visio, MS Word and MS PowerPoint. Requirements:*
  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications preferred or equivalent relevant experience. *
  • 7 years experience working in a high-availability business systems and datacenter environment.*
  • Must have strong knowledge of the AIX, Linux, and Microsoft Operating systems with Solaris operating systems a plus. *
  • Working knowledge of NAS and SAN technologies, preferable experience with Network Appliance, Hitachi Data Systems and EMC storage technologies. *
  • Experience in supporting systems running Oracle, MS SQL, or DB2.*
  • Must have working knowledge of network (LAN/WAN) technologies and UNIX / Microsoft system management tools*
  • Extensive experience supporting IIS, Apache, and other web delivery systems in medium to large environments.*
  • Experience supporting Websphere, Tomcat, and other application servers*
  • Adept at researching technology solutions with all available resources *
  • Proven analytical and trouble shooting skills *
  • Datacenter and business systems environment operations management.*
  • Ability to set scope and deliver quality result *
  • Ability to determine and assign tasks to others to achieve project goals *
  • Strong Scripting skills, shell scripting, PERL or Python preferred *
  • Utilize change management systems and maintenance windows to achieve highly available enterprise systems *
  • Knowledge of UNIX server hardware components, preferably IBM P-Series and Blade centers.*
  • Experienced in hands-on network administration, including user and server administration and design.*
  • Experienced in HP, IBM, and Apple hardware platforms.*
  • Knowledge of various technology architectures including TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, LAN, WAN and VPN.*
  • Hands-on experience with high availability server virtualization, including VMware ESX.*
  • Ability to perform training to all levels within the organization.*
  • Good technical skills; ability to work in a dynamic environment.*
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.*
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple, high priority projects with a keen attention to detail.*
