Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
-Obtain requirements, functional design, and internal design specifications and other necessary documents.
-Determine reporting requirements, required standards and processes (such as release processes, change processes, etc.)
-Identify and communicate application's higher-risk aspects, set priorities, determine scope and limitations of tests.
-Determine test approaches and methods - unit, integration, functional, system, load, usability tests, etc.
-Determine test environment requirements (hardware, software, communications, etc.)
-Ensure testware tools (record/playback tools, coverage analyzers, test tracking, problem/bug tracking, etc.) are inline with Aetna standards.
-Determine test input data requirements with expected results.
-Set testing schedule estimates, timelines, milestones
-Prepare test plan document in conjunction with subject matter experts (SMEs)
-Write test cases and institute reviews/inspections/approvals of test cases.
-Prepare test environment and testware, obtain needed user manuals/reference documents/configuration guides/installation guides, set up test tracking processes, set up logging and archiving processes, set up or obtain test input data.
-Obtain and install software releases.
-Execute test plans and scripts independently and retest as needed.
-Evaluate and report results and track problems/bugs and fixes through to resolution.
-Maintain and update test plans and test cases.


SKILL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
-Minimum of 5 years experience with software testing and quality assurance.
-Experience with software development life cycle.
-Experience with automated test tools and test case generation techniques.
-Excellent judgement, analytical, negotiation and communications skills.
-Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
A good test engineer has a 'test to break' attitude, a strong desire for quality, and an attention to detail, while adopting the point of view of the end user. The ability to communicate with both technical (developers) and non-technical (customers, management) people is useful. Previous software development experience can help with understanding the software development process and helps with automated test tool programming. Judgement skills are needed to assess high-risk areas of an application on which to focus testing efforts when time is limited.
