Description
Our client is seeking a Senior Unix Administrator / Engineer who can analyze, design, select, architect, and implement in an enterprise Unix environment. Work assignments are diverse and complex across the enterprise. This position requires advanced knowledge of many technical areas, platforms, and operating systems, disciplines and an understanding of how the practices are applied and integrated to provide value to the company.

The Unix Administrator provides enterprise architecture, engineering of overall infrastructure solution design, and software engineering and tools. This role is responsible for new technology solutions, performance levels of the existing environment, and providing problem resolution and support. To be successful, you must be able to increase operating efficiency and effectiveness. To be an effective part of the team, you should be a highly motivated, self-sufficient person who can translate business objectives into a design and execute the plan once it has been defined. This is a very hands-on position, suited for those with strong adherence to process and change management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage integration work in accordance to the plan and the company*s methodology, including installing and providing diverse complex hardware and software solutions for infrastructure design, testing, construction, and implementation.
  • Interact with many departments within the corporation to ensure that each implementation is compliant with the organization*s best practices
  • Identify, select, develop, and document hardware and/or software standards.
  • Review and constantly evolve a clear and repeatable implementation methodology for each technology offering.
  • Ensure infrastructure reliability and performance levels of three or more components.
  • Provide recommendations to reduce costs and increase efficiency and profitability.
  • Provide escalated assistance for production support and repair.
  • Adhere to all IT guiding principles, processes, policies, standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrate integrity without compromise, respect, commitment to excellence, collaboration, agility, value diversity --every day with every team member.
  • Track progress and provide weekly status updates to project sponsors and customers.

    Required Technical Skills:
  • 8+ years overall business and Information Technology experience in the engineering field.
  • 4 years experience with hardware platforms such as HP, Sun, Dec and IBM.
  • Knowledge of Unix technologies including installation and configuration
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP including DNS,WINS, DHCP, routing and sub-netting.
  • Knowledge of network hardware including switches and routers.
  • Knowledge of network security technologies and practices including firewalls, intrusion detection, and access control lists, etc.
  • Knowledge of capacity planning methodologies.
  • Ability to diagnose server / systems problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of shell script development and use. Strong working knowledge of network connectivity requirements and configuration in a UNIX HA clustering environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of open systems hardware and system software components.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with complex technical projects, and programming UNIX shell scripts and PERL.
  • Network and Server performance tuning, user administration and UNIX file system management.
  • Strong knowledge of network hardware, network design, and network security design & implementation.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies such as VoIP, intrusion prevention, and others.
  • Experience with Cisco switches and routers are required with technical proficiency in VPN, load-balancing, HA/clustering, intrusion detection, and network/systems management.

    Education:
    BS in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, or Business Administration.
