Description
Innovative thinking and cutting-edge breakthroughs have made us the leading provider of software solutions to nonprofit organizations around the globe. We have an immediate need for a Software Architect with a proven track record of leadership in packaged commercial software development.
If you've mastered Visual Basic, take an enthusiastic approach to your work and know how to lead -- and mentor -- a team, we want you to add your expertise and insight to one of Blackbaud's signature solutions: The Financial EdgeTM. This versatile commercial application has more than a million lines of code and is constantly evolving to help our nonprofit clients make the best decisions with their funds.

We are an advanced Microsoft shop utilizing VB6, VB.Net and SQL Server ... and one of a select few ISVs that embed VBA into our exclusive products. Our program architecture is built on a rich object model exposed to VBA and any other COM clients via a documented API, utilizing an advanced OR mapping layer tuned for speed, flexibility and ease of use.

As a Software Architect you will:
  • Brainstorm and formulate cutting-edge product breakthroughs, defining high-level design and requirements
  • Take a hands-on approach while participating in all phases of the development process
  • Work with Managers, Programming Leads and senior team members to establish product roadmaps and schedules
  • Prioritize issues and ensure deadlines are met
  • Foster the professional development of team members
  • Evaluate performance of critical application components and optimize them for maximum performance
  • Ensure program code for UI, COM layer and Database is efficient and easy to maintain

Experience and Skills:
Blackbaud will consider only candidates who have:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience leading large projects, mentoring staff and creating "big picture" problem-solving strategies
  • At least six years in packaged commercial software development
  • Mastered VB 6.0, COM and .NET (C++ in a commercial application environment acceptable)
  • Experience with design and implementation of object structures in relational databases
  • A diligent work ethic and the discipline to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

Preferred Experience:
Blackbaud will give priority consideration to candidates who have a Master's degree. Any experience working with or for nonprofit organizations also is a big plus.

Work Environment:
Blackbaud employees enjoy a casual dress code in a fast-paced professional work environment. The company's fantastic, state-of-the-art facility located on Daniel Island in Charleston, SC, features a fully equipped fitness center, on-site cafeteria, ATM, dry cleaning and shipping services. An outstanding benefits package - including Medical, Dental and Vision insurance, company-matched 401(k) contributions as well as vacation and sick time - begins on the first day of employment!

Charleston, SC, is one of America's best-kept secrets! Located right on the water with a rich history, Charleston boasts some of the best restaurants in the country, arts and culture, as well as amazing golf and recreation. It has also been voted America's friendliest city for nine straight years!
