Software Asset Manager (RTH) Pre VMO
Job Description
The software asset manager directs and manages all activities related to acquisition processes for all software resources and related services. The candidate for this position must understand software needs, as well as assess plans and selection criteria for enterprise software requirements; work with all Subject Matter Experts on short- and long-term software requirements, as well as perform extensive financial analysis for cost-effective acquisition programs, including chargeback and inventory control; and perform financial modeling and prediction tasks, along with the planning and implementation of major software upgrades, while following accepted change management procedures and methodologies. Software asset managers negotiate with outside software suppliers to optimize the procurement of cost-effective acquisitions.
Primary Responsibilities
Depending on organization size and environment, individuals in this position will be responsible for:
" Working with senior management to review IT software resources/expenditure levels
" Establishing volume purchase agreements
" Establishing procedures to determine/enhance software requirements
" Negotiating cost-effective software pricing, based on current and future business needs
" Determining and maintaining lease/buy models
" Managing activities in concert with the procurement, financial and legal departments to analyze proposals/negotiating vendor contracts involved with the acquisition of software resources
" Monitoring tracking systems for software acquisition and related services
" Negotiating service-level agreements for software
" Maintaining regular contact with outside suppliers
" Maintaining current knowledge of software changes, and planning for changes in response to dynamic business needs
" Managing asset inventory process and personnel, while maintaining software assets
" Lead Asset Management team.

Activities
Individuals in this position must perform the following ongoing activities.
" Maintain close working relationships with business units and peers in other areas of the company
" Write proposals and technical documents, and create and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, including management, users, suppliers and technical staff
" Participate in management technical strategy meetings, major upgrade decision meetings, capacity-planning strategy sessions, performance reporting, new application design and so forth
" Maintain extensive contact with outside suppliers and outsourcing firms to enlist additional IT service support as necessary
" Develop relationships with professional organizations, user groups and industry trade groups to stay current with technology
