Desciption of tasks:
This position reports to the Project Manager and develops, codes, tests and debugs software.

Work with project team to understand business applications and develop new software, make enhancements to existing software, or understand problems and resolve them.

Assist in the development of detailed technical specifications and user documentation.

Demonstrate software.

Resolves customer complaints with software and responds to suggestions for improvement.

Perform assigned duties in accordance with the department's policies, standards and methodology.

Principal accountability:
Design, develop and support systems as specified by system requirements and specifications.

Participate in project kick-off meetings, workshops and design reviews.

Provide user support for the IS internal organization as well as the end-user community.

Adhere to all departmental standards and guidelines.

Experience/Skills
Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 year Associates Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration or other related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with Java J2EE or EJB web development on enterprise level applications.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as an administrator with WebSphere.
  • Experience working with GIS applications (e.g. MapInfo) and SAP integration (e.g. XMII, XI) a plus.
  • Experience working with Oracle 10g databases is required.
  • Professional certification is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Background in mining or engineering field a plus.
  • Minimum 5 or more years experience in applications systems design and development and/or in supporting and maintaining existing systems.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle from idea inception, to scoping, requirements gathering, analysis/design, construction, testing/QA, deployment, maintenance/support and change management.
  • Strong understanding of systems integrationand object-oriented software development within a distributed computing environment.
  • Strong SQL skills needed.
  • C#.Net, SQL 2005 Analysis Services and/or Reporting Services, Business Objects and/or Crystal Reports knowledge a plus.
  • Good communications skills a must.
  • Must be a self starter. Be able to work alone or as part of a group.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish customer and staff relationships.
