Software Development Manager

The Software Development Manager will be responsible for the software engineering function at our client. He or she will be expected to lead a team of software engineers, including establishing and maintaining software processes and quality standards, promoting the personal development of Software Engineers, and providing guidance on technical issues. The Software Development Manager will also work with Project Managers to ensure that development meets or exceeds customer requirements, including tracking project assignments made to Software Engineers, helping to plan and accurately estimate work, and conducting thorough and effective design reviews. The Software development Manager will be expected to select, procure, and administer necessary software development tools. The Software Development Manager will take the lead in promoting good design practices and getting results from Software Engineers.

A BSSE/BSCS is required.

We need an individual that will be self-directed, with good planning skills and the ability to drive software standards and development at the department level. We need someone that has the ability to coordinate resources among several areas and work well with others. We are looking for a person with excellent communication skills and the ability to operate in a team environment and that is focused, goal-oriented, and deadline driven.


Minimum: 5 years of technical experience and 5 years of managerial experience.

Ideal: 10 years of technical experience and 10 years of managerial experience.

Experience in a functional software manager role is preferred. Experience in a matrix-type organization is preferred. Experience with setting up standard software practices and guidelines, software re-use, and automated software testing is preferred.
