We are currently searching for an experienced Software Engineer to support one of our clients at the National Institutes of Health. This opportunity is permanent, full-time, and on site in Bethesda/Rockville, MD.

Our client, an institute within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is considering the acquisition of professional Information Technology (IT) services of a full-time Software Engineer to assist an internal division with biocomputational projects that support NIH intramural research.

Our client provides solutions to computational problems in biomedical image processing, particularly in the field of clinical image (i.e., MRI and CT) analysis, quantification, and visualization.

To support imaging research in the NIH intramural program, our client has made major progress in the development of an n-dimensional general-purpose, extensible image processing and visualization program.

This application (Medical Image Processing, Analysis, and Visualization, or MIPAV) is platform independent and assists researchers with extracting quantitative information from various medical imaging modalities. MIPAV is designed to be both an application and an Application Programming Interface (API) for the development and incorporation of new and innovative image processing, registration, and visualizations. As an application, MIPAV provides the researcher with a ready-made, general-purpose image analysis application to meet the majority of requirements of many researchers. Using MIPAV's standard user interface and analysis tools, researchers can easily share research data and analyses, thereby enhancing their ability to research, diagnose, monitor, and treat medical disorders.

Duties
Develop image-processing software (Java based within the MIPAV framework to facilitate the evaluation of 2D and 3D digital images obtained from various acquisition devices).
Develop new algorithms, functionality, and visualization techniques within the MIPAV framework to support future imaging projects.
Develop and implement algorithms and methodology for image registration, deconvolution, contrast enhancement, segmentation, and visualization in the Java programming language to meet the requirements of the NIH Intramural Research Program.
Perform other Software Engineer tasks as required by the Project Officer to support client's biocomputational projects.

Experience/Skills
Minimum/General Experience: A minimum of two years experience in Java, Swing, and/or Java2D programming is required. In addition, image processing experience of biomedical image datasets is a plus. Minimum Education: Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science.
