Description
This is a mid-level position within the Software Quality Assurance group. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with a strong Quality Assurance background. The Software QA Engineer is responsible for analyzing requirements and performing functional testing on a web based end user application. Strong SQL skills are necessary to support the data analysis and validation required by this position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designs test strategies and writes test plans for small to complex products.
Executes functional testing in order to find and record defects as assigned by QA Lead/Manager.
Analyzes defects and determines severity.
Performs high-level assessments after testing is completed.
Writes test cases and test reports.
Submits work for peer review, as needed.
Participates in reviews of work products (especially test cases and test reports) of other QA Engineers.
Develops his or her schedules with occasional assistance from others and usually meets them.
Works collaboratively with other personnel within the company to meet corporate and/or organizational goals.
Keeps QA Lead/Manager informed of progress at all times. Notifies QA Lead/Manager as soon as it appears there is any significant chance that a task will not be completed on time. Fosters an environment of "no surprises."
Reviews assignments and makes recommendations to QA Lead/Manager.
Follows standards and procedures.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

Testing 3-tier Web-based Windows applications
Experience in UI and usability testing
Solid understanding of relational databases
Strong SQL Skills - specifically Oracle and SQL Server environments: data validation, writing own queries and multiple joins
Working knowledge of command languages Perl and Kshell.
Demonstrated ability to apply analytical skills
Proven technical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Application and Web Serversdf-tc
