Title: Solaris Administrator
Location: Dallas, TX
Duration: 8 months contract

Basic Qualifications:
UNIX system administrator who must have in-depth knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in Solaris 10 administration including the ability to alter and rebuild Kernel Proficiency of High Availabity software products like Symantec/Veritas. Must have advanced knowledge of SAN and TCP/IP and demonstrated proficieny in Shell and Perl scripting. Oversees, plans and provides support for highly complex system and database administration.


Job Summary:
This is an advanced level position into production support of distributed Operating Systems Support (OSS). OSS provides critical infrastructure services to Federal Reserve business functions and mission critical financial applications. It supports enterprise multi-platform environments that requires disciplines following ITIL methodologies. The OSS technical discipline includes Solaris, AIX, Linux, Symantec/Veritas and associated infrastructure management and security software, tools and utilities. OSS Technician works with minimum supervision and may provides mentoring and training to junior staff. The individual performs production support tasks including health check, hardware and software maintenance, configurations, and troubleshooting. Successful support requires a strong, in-depth appreciation of business operations and processes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Production Support
Performs infrastructure support tasks, including daily health check, implementation of customer requests, documenting configurations and procedures. Participates in daily support of the infrastructure by conducting timely follow-up and resolution of problem tickets. Possesses an increasingly broad knowledge of infrastructure management and security technology through class room training, on-the-job training and independent research. 5
Problem Solving
Provide 24x7 on-call support on a rotating basis. Works with all necessary parties (customer, client, operations, application support etc.) to investigate and resolve problems as they occur. Recommends and implements the required remediation steps in accordance with change policies and service level agreements. Participates in post problem analysis, investigates root cause, document sand implements preventive measures and improvement. 4
System Maintenance
Under technical direction/supervision, implements hardware, firmware and software upgrades and patches to maintain technology currency. Implement changes and remediate problems and vulnerabilities to meet the needs of customers while maintaining a stable environment. Practices change control in strict adherence to FRIT change control policy and follows all change guidelines. 4
Project Support
Participates in project activities to support major infrastructure or application projects. Participates in workgroups which evaluate, recommend design, build, test and coordinate the implementation of enterprise hardware/software solutions. Works closely with other infrastructure components in support of open systems environments. Provide consulting services, recommends designs, configurations, hardware/software products and solutions. 3
Administrative Support
Works with customers and senior engineers to document/implement customer requests. Advises customers on best practices and implements the necessary changes to address their business needs. Works with internal/external auditors and oversight boards, panels or groups to provide data and information for security reviews and to maintain proper levels of access control. Participates in product/technology risk management process 3

Position Requirements:

Education & Experience:
College degree, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems. 3+ years IT experience including 1+ year working in medium to large data centers and enterprise environment supporting infrastructure and Operating Systems.

Unix Support: Certified Solaris, AIX, Redhat Linux and/or Veritas Administrator is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:
Job Knowledge and Skills
Requires basic technical knowledge and understanding of the installation, support, maintenance of Operating Systems, management and security software. Basic knowledge of a multi-tiered distributed architecture, including LAN/WAN concepts, TCP/IP, DNS and firewalls is required. Programming and scripting capabilities are desirable.

Unix Support:
