Solutions Architect
My client, a St. Louis based company creating sophisticated communication products, is looking for a Solutions Architect.

SCOPE OF OPPORTUNITY
Solution Architect for a high-profile complex, distributed, 24x7, commercial system software product hosted on the J2EE platform. Will be on a small team of Architects, directed by a Lead Architect that ensures the technology implemented will serve the business needs and vision. Work with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)/Business Analysts (BAs), Project Management (PMs) and Development Manager to drive releases and balance scope, schedule, quality and cost.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for assisting in the formulation of the overall technical vision of the product and how that vision serves the business and is realized in construction.
Provide expertise to anticipate schedule and technical risks.
Assist in building commercial software house - policy, organization, staffing and process.
Assist in the identification and collection of metrics used for objective analysis.
Ensure development standards are followed for all J2EE development including automated checks (via tools such as CheckStyle, Macker, etc.)
Review and sign-off on artifacts from all phases - Uses Cases, estimates, HLDs, LLDs, code, tests - to make sure they meet requirements and the architectural vision for the product.
May participate in development on frameworks and other key areas.
Help with performance/scale/high-availability issues including resolving deadlocks and race conditions applying thread dumps, profilers, etc.
Provide input to documentation including Software Architecture Document (4 + 1 views), engine diagrams, etc.
Assists other disciplines as needed including Infrastructure for sizing, platform strategy/migration/configuration and build automation.
Support both production and development including escalation and promotion management.
Communicates as needed with the Project Managers and Development/Test/Performance Managers for updates on progress, implementation issues and status.
Escalates issues in a timely manner and provides mitigation recommendations to the Project Manager.
Identifies resource needs and communicates them to PMO and Project Manager.
Supports other design, development and support activities as directed by the Director of Development.df-tc


Experience/Skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor-s degree in Computer Science or related field.
6-8 years of experience in design and development using Systems Development Life Cycle and Project Management Methodologies.
4 years as Senior Developer of Lead Designer.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of J2EE and related technologies including
EJB, JMS, and JDBC.
Experience on several full project life cycles.
Experience with a variety of architecture/design patterns and idioms.
Experience with developing performant/scalable/high-availability systems; specifically performance/reliability issues - concurrency, deadlocks, race conditions, database contention, transactions, error handling/recovery and self-correction, applying profiling, memory analysis and thread dumps is highly desirable.
Understanding of the J2EE deployment model (e.g., EAR, WAR, JAR, etc.), hierarchical class loading, clustering, load balancing and failover.
Database (preferably Oracle) and JDBC/SQL expertise.
Must have automation experience including Ant, JUnit and/or Cactus, metrics generation, style checkers (e.g., CheckStyle, Macker, -).
Highly proficient in UML, RUP and Rational tools.
Excellent time management skills, including multi-tasking and prioritization.
Excellent analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including mentoring and performance feedback.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Exposure to a broad range of development tools and methodologies.
Commercial Software development experience a plus.
Advanced algorithms and data structures knowledge a plus.
Distributed systems experience - SOA, Web Services, COM, CORBA - a plus.
Real-time or telecommunications software experience a plus.
