Description
We currently have a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Solutions Architect to work in GTA's Enterprise IT Planning Office within our Technology Planning Division. GTA is an agency in the executive branch of Georgia state government and has two primary roles in government, which are to serve as an IT oversight agency and service provider. In the oversight role, GTA is responsible for architecture standards and policies for executive branch agencies. In the service provider role, GTA manages the State's Wide Area Network with over 1700 sites and the State's data center with an IBM OS/390 environment, a large Sun Solaris environment, several Unisys Clearpath mainframes, and a large Microsoft Windows environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for working in the area of enterprise solutions architecture. This will include the planning, development, and implementation of the enterprise solution (service component) architecture supporting the State's Agencies. This position will consult with key GTA and agency stakeholders to develop the enterprise solution architecture and integrate service solutions to enhance the operational efficiency of key systems for the State of Georgia.

Reporting to the Enterprise IT Planning Office Director and working under the direction of the Chief Architect, the Solution Architect will lead technical implementation teams in designing and delivering solution architectures to provide business solutions to complex customer requirements. The individual will work closely with other architects (business, information and technical) assigned on defining new development, consulting and implementation practices and procedures.

The candidate must have the ability to work independently and with little or no direct staff, constantly working with agency counterparts. The ideal candidate for this position will have highly developed problem analysis and solving skills along with a collaborative working style. Project management skills are requisite. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with both technical and business people at all organizational levels. Position requires incoming candidate to be deliverable and deadline oriented for all assigned task and responsibilities. The Solution Architect will remain current on the new software, support tools and technology upgrades while providing the latest industry and functional methodologies to craft creative solutions.

This position is considered to be a key member of the GTA Enterprise IT Planning Office.

Major responsibilities of this position include:

. Performing architectural responsibilities with respect to solutions Architecture.
. Reviewing proposed technology projects for economy, effectiveness and alignment with target enterprise architecture and migration plans.
. Working with other architects to deliver cost effective business solutions to support solution architectures on key projects across the state enterprise
. Providing advice and guidance to customers on solution architectural related matters involving design, development and implementation of proposed solutions.
. Gathering and documenting business and user requirements for design specification.
. Analyzing customer business process requirements as a basis to propose solutions to complex customer requirements.
. Ensuring clear understanding of customer's technology requirements; provide support for Proposal and Project teams, provide technical leadership and vision to win and deliver large-scale, complex software solutions.
. Providing input into future software functionality, implementation methodology and customization Standards and ensure quality software engineering processes are followed.
. Planning and facilitating client/team requirements workshops
. Working with the Project Manager to develop project cost and time estimates
. Working with design staff to create conceptual design interface layouts
. Providing systems/application analysis on customers request to ensure desired solution is aligned with IT architectures in support GTA goals and objectives.
. Assisting the procurement process by developing RFP measurements and standards for proposed solution approaches.
