About Teach For America

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates – of all academic majors and career interests – who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools in the nation’s lowest-income communities and become lifelong leaders for expanding educational opportunity.  Our mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation’s most promising future leaders in the effort.

Currently, more than 3,500 first and second year corps members are teaching in 25 urban and rural areas across the country, collectively reaching more than 300,000 students.  The corps members work relentlessly to put their students on a level playing field with those growing up in more affluent areas.  At the same time, corps members gain the insight and conviction necessary to be lifelong leaders in the pursuit of fundamental change.  More than 12,000 Teach For America alumni are providing critical leadership within education and social reform, and they are also marshalling support for change from positions within business, law, medicine, and other sectors.

We have launched an ambitious five-year plan to grow our scale and impact still further.  By becoming our nation’s top employer of top recent college graduates and maximizing the impact of our corps members and alumni, we will provide hundreds of thousands more disadvantaged students with teachers who will make a real difference in their lives.  At the same time, we will influence the quality of future civic and educational leadership and, we believe, the consciousness of our country.

Summary

Teach For America’s alumni network is growing rapidly – our alumni currently number 12,000 and will be more than 20,000 by 2010.  We have a bold vision for the collective impact our alumni can have on the movement to end educational inequity, and accordingly have set goals  of having 600 alumni in positions of school leadership, 100 alumni elected to political office, and 50% of our alumni donating time and money back to our organization by 2010.  To achieve these results, we will need to build truly first-class data management and analysis systems that can help us accurately track our alumni, and analyze the success of current strategies to better inform decision-making moving forward.

The alumni infrastructure specialist, reporting to the director of alumni infrastructure, will play a critical role in this process. The specialist will be responsible for data grooming, presentation and organization, and will analyze data to produce reports that drive decision making processes on our school leadership, engagement, and political leadership initiatives.  The specialist will also train and support other alumni team members in the use of our critical databases and technology tools.  This is an ideal opportunity to learn about the operations, infrastructure, and technology of a high-performing nonprofit organization, while building skills in data analysis and training adults.

Teach For America seeks individuals of all ethnic and racial backgrounds to apply for the position.
