Description
The Data Network Engineer position is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of complex LAN/WAN solutions for projects across the Convergys enterprise. The position will require network engineering, project management, time management, customer service, teamwork, and leadership skills. The position will require the ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide network design solutions that conform to published standards
Serve as the data network resource for client or corporate projects
May serve a project manager for a group of engineers for internal initiatives - to lead the project, assign tasks, report status, and complete within time and budget goals.
Serve as a client interface for requirements definition and data network guidance
Resolve network issues or outages
Research technology advancements and make recommendations to improving reliability, security, and efficiency in the data network
Work closely with the Voice engineers to support VOIP operations
Participate in rotational on call support duties

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Five years hands-on experience supporting a complex data network environment supporting 24x7 mission critical applications and services
Expert knowledge of Cisco and/or Nortel network product (6500, 7200, 3550, PIX/ASA, Content Switches, Nortel 8600)
Experience configuring and troubleshooting internal and external routing protocols – OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP
Experience with deploying MPLS based WANs
Experience configuring high-availability networks
Experience using network monitoring and management tools for troubleshooting and capacity management
Cisco and/or Nortel certifications preferred
Experience with other technology areas such as server architecture, network security or PBXs
High level of technical aptitude
Possess solid decision making skills in problem identification, solution recommendation and implementation
Ability to organize and prioritize in a fast paced, deadline oriented, rapidly changing environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Detail and customer service oriented
Excellent planning, organizational and time management skillsdf-tc
