Job Purpose

This position reports to the Director – Technical Support and NMS and is responsible for ensuring the quality of network-based products by maintaining effective and efficient technical support, technical standards, and technical training. By ensuring efficient operations, this position has a direct correlation with overall performance of the network. This technical support specialist provides second level support to CBB work groups for IP based access devices, including DSLAMs, interworking between PSTN and IP telephony networks, and next generation services for these platforms.

Attendance is required in this position.

Essential Functions

Providing the highest level of technical expertise to internal and external customers in one or more of the following areas: digital switching (PSTN and wireless), transport (including access), signaling, grounding, network synchronization, outside plant, provisioning, customer premise equipment, specific network technologies (ADSL, ATM, frame relay, Ethernet, internet routers, bridges, hubs) 25%
Serving as a point of escalation for technical problems which are chronic or inherent to the design of a network element. 35%
Maintaining effective methods and procedures, ensuring safe and efficient operations. 15%
Responsible for maintaining current equipment generic loads and patches. 25%

Education

Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Experience / Background

3 to 5 years

Accreditation / Certification / Licenses

Cisco Certifications preferred.

Previous Job Experience

Familiarity with CBT products and services and how those products and services utilize the network.
Demonstrated experience with current advance data transport technologies (ie: ATM, frame relay, internet routers, bridges, hubs)
Demonstrated successful experience in maintenance operations preferably at a Telco or related industry.
Demonstrated expertise with Wireless Network Architectures and Intelligent Network Technologies, WIN, SCP/HLR, STPs, Switching and SS7 Signaling advantageous.
Experience with Lucent and Nortel switching systems advantageous.
Experience with deployment, maintenance and on-going operation support of switch, transport, core, and access equipment.
Experience with delivering technical training programs.

Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Working knowledge of IP Data including core and access devices.
Thorough technical knowledge of the public switched telephone network, data networks, and wireless networks and the associated services/features.
Proficient problem solving skills.
Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously and tracking/managing issues to resolution.
Strong interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written).
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to lead and mentor less experienced personnel in completing technically oriented tasks.
Ability to apply simple financial analysis tools.
Computer skills – familiarity with word processors, spreadsheets, database software and communications transmission protocols.
