Sr Application Management

Job Description

oversee enhancements for application programs used in the Investment Bank. Performs day-to-day production support for applications, diagnosis problems, and resolves production issues. Codes, tests, implements and communicates required tactical enhancements.

Responsibilities:
Application Management
. Specializes and develops expertise in one or more proprietary applications
. Implements appropriate monitoring tools
. Works with external parties to ensure production support availability
. Executes the release/change management process for proprietary applications
. Troubleshoots application issues and escalates as appropriate
. Participates in root cause analysis and resolution as directed
. Provides out of hours support as required
. Works closely with development teams to implement fixes as required
. Liaises closely with global operate teams from other application areas for resolution of issues

. Ability to understand complex interactions and look for causes and provide solutions.

Communication
. Ability to communicate effectively both over the phone and in written methods.

. Ability to adapt to a constant and rapidly changing environment.

. Ability & desire to take ownership of a problem and stay with it through to resolution. This often involves coordinating the actions of people in other teams to achieve the desired result.

After Hours
. An understanding that occasionally after hours response to problems will be required. Periodic "on-call" cycles are likely.

Experience/Skills
Required Skills:
. 3-5 years Linux System Admin experience
. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
. Comfortable with most aspects of Linux operating system administration (ex.: configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software, etc.)
. Solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understand paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, RAID, logical volume management).
. Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS, LDAP, ActiveDirectory domains, DNS, and DHCP; understands basic routing concepts.
