Senior Associate, Business Consulting

Job Summary

The Senior Associate, Business Consulting, is primarily responsible for directing and conducting research and analysis as well as contributing to the development of implementable business strategies and solutions on client projects. The Senior Associate will work within a broader multi-disciplinary team on a broad range of business-related topics including, but not limited to, business strategy, operations, business case development and industry-specific issues. For both clients and project teams, the Senior Associate is expected to engage in the identification and framing of business value from technology. In addition, the Senior Associate will monitor project progress and assist in pursuing engagement follow-on opportunities. The Senior Associate is expected to show proficiency with a range of Business Consulting tools and methods. Our integrated methodology begins with the development of a robust research and analysis agenda for understanding the business context and setting a clear strategic direction for addressing the client's business challenges. The Senior Associate will direct and conduct research and analysis as a basis for building and validating hypotheses and business cases that address the business issues facing the client.

The Senior Associate will work with team members from other practice areas such as user experience and technology and incorporate their findings and hypotheses into business analysis. In order to do this effectively, the Senior Associate will leverage expertise in one or more of the other practice areas. In addition, the Senior Associate is expected to develop mentoring relationships with other business consultants.

In performing the essential functions of this role, the work environment is fast-paced, moderately noisy and team-based. Additionally, frequent overnight travel is required.

The Sr. Associate, Business Consulting works under the supervision of a Manager, Sr. Manager, or Director, Business Consulting.

Senior Associates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in key areas of responsibility: Research and Analysis, Business Modeling, Strategy Development, Business Process Transformation, and Change Management. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following and others as assigned:

I. Research & Analysis


· Leads research / analysis for a single work stream of a project (e.g., competitive analysis)
· Leads complex research plan development (identifying research targets and deliverables)
· Incorporates client's base of knowledge into research and analysis conclusions
· Provides input into development of research and analysis program
· Defines and analyzes industry value chain
· Determines market size and growth, segments customers and identify needs of each segment
· Benchmarks financial results against relevant competitors
· Seeks input from senior team members on the quality of data, analysis and conclusions
· Prepares and conducts interviews with client stakeholders
· For delivery teams: Understands implications of technology and user experience research on business findings and implications
II. Business Modeling


· Understands inputs into blueprint for business modeling and how business models impact business case development
· Develops basic ability to formulate assumptions and inputs for models and business cases
· Seeks validation of business model assumptions from more experienced team members and peers
· Contributes detailed information to ensure quality and accuracy of models
· Develops business case scenarios
III. Strategy Development


· Demonstrates basic knowledge of various elements of strategy development and begins formulating strategy for clients
· Develops solid fact base for identifying strategic options
· Develops solid fact base for evaluation criteria for strategic options
· Provides solid fact base for prioritizing strategic options
· Supports other strategy team members in developing value propositions, business justifications, adoption models
· Demonstrates basic knowledge in defining future business models
