Sr. FlashEngineer – Disney Online Studio


POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Engineer will act as a primary developer and innovator for mission-critical applications including Games and Community Applications and Virtual World products. Flash is the central technology used in many Virtual World products so the best candidate will have a demonstrated ability to learn Flash code while already possessing C++ or Java experience using industry leading best-practices, a degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, game development expertise, and expertise in development trends in the Virtual World community is a plus but not mandatory.

The Software Engineer will:


Develop C++/Flash-based Virtual World applications
Develop tools to support C++/Flash-based Virtual World applications
Develop Games and Community applications
Develop a shared code base for all Disney Online Studios (DOS) C++/Flash-based products
Help establish best-practices and coding techniques for all of C++/Flash components.


The Software Engineer will utilize industry standard tools including the Eclipse IDE, Ant, CVS and/or Perforce source code management, and Javadoc generators like ASDoc.

The Software Engineer must be fluent in or have the aptitude to learn Java/J2ME and C++ as well as ActionScript 2 & 3.

Experience developing multiplayer games is a plus.

Disney Online Studio products will make extensive use of client-server interaction so the Software Engineer must have experience developing code that utilizes socket communication, and Web Services.

Experience with software 3D rendering is a plus.



QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION


Must have a 4-year CS degree (or equivalent) with a concentration in game development.
Must have experience developing object-oriented interactive applications using Java/J2ME, C++, or ActionScript 2 & 3.
Knowledge of interactive content including games, game types, and game platforms is a plus.
Experience developing online community applications including multiplayer games, IM, leader boards, tournaments, message boards, etc is a plus.
Must have knowledge of, and interest in, Disney kids’ online entertainment. Online entertainment experience and family oriented entertainment is a plus.
Experience developing content using prominent in-browser platform technologies is a plus.
Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills.
Must but able to multitask, plan schedules, adhere to deadlines and manage all details.
Must have an ability to prepare and maintain documentation.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

Must have expertise in C++/Java and the ability and desire to learn Flash ActionScript 2/3. Experience developing C++/Flash client apps that utilize Web Services and Socket communication is a plus. Must have knowledge of operating systems and browser limitations. Must have experience with source code management systems (CVS, Perforce).
