POSITION SUMMARY
BACKGROUND: The Walt Disney Internet Group is the Internet media business of the Walt Disney Company, and includes Disney.com, the number one website for kids and families, and Family.com, the premier family site. LOCATION: North Hollywood, CA

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting the Director of Technology, Disney Online, the Manager of Technology will contribute to the development, delivery, and support of Internet products and applications, including product and system design, architectural fit and compliance, resource schedules and delivery milestones, and overall product quality. In addition, Manager of Technology with work with senior management and the Walt Disney Internet Group to guide the evolution of the Disney Online architecture, standards, tools and methodologies.

This position requires the ability to direct a variety of diverse - and sometimes conflicting – requests, priorities, and activities. Candidates will need management skill combined with the flexibility to interact with people at all levels, within WDIG and across the Walt Disney Company.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Provides leadership in design, delivery, and support of Disney Online products and systems
· Provides engineering support to business units and external groups
· Develops and manages effective working relationships with other departments, groups and staff with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced.
· Creates and monitors the set of policies that establish standard development languages, tools, and methodology; documentation practices; and examination procedures for developed systems to insure alignment with overall architecture.
· Assists in evaluating the technology staff.
· Identifies and provides appropriate technology staff career paths throughout the organization.
· Participate in the broader Walt Disney Internet Group organization, and ensure that, where possible, products are created in a platform-centric manner.

CONTACTS:

· Internal: The most frequent internal contacts are with Producers in the Online Creative group, Systems Engineering, the Quality Assurance group, various roles at the Walt Disney Internet Group, Director of Creative Online Services, and the Vice President of Technology.
· External: The primary external contacts are with contract customers, vendors, and other industry peers.
EXPERIENCE:


A minimum of 6 years of software development experience
A minimum of 3 years experience in managing technical professionals; a preference will be given to candidates who have managed managers and software engineers in a Java and Web environment
A BS, ideally in computer science, or equivalent experience
Knowledge of web development, e-commerce architecture, connectivity technologies, web hosting, advanced network protocols, client-server technologies, applications development and multi-vendor environments
Experience in a large media, technology or internet company
A sound understanding of content management systems
Success at achieving sophisticated technology goals on-time and on-budget
A comfort level with complex, matrix organizations containing a certain amount of ambiguity
