Position Summary
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for monitoring and maintaining systems, participates in planning capacity, performs audits and will work with other members of the WDIG Network Services Team to install and maintain configurations. The Senior Network Engineer provides technical support and consultation and ensures 24x7 operational support and maintenance. The Senior Network Engineer will apply company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues. Will work on problems of complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. They will exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action as well as recommend and document best practice guidelines for future leverage. Additionally, they will also work under general supervision with few direct instructions in administering and managing state-of-the-art network infrastructure, monitoring tools and security systems. Contact with others externally expected with Vendors, and internally cross team in Operations, with more limited contact with vertical development units. The Senior Network Engineer will mentor less experienced network engineers to assist them in increasing their network related skills. They will also provide project oversight to selected projects assigned to these engineers. This network infrastructure includes Layer 3 switches, traditional routers, content switching equipment, and network security devices such as IDS and firewall equipment. A successful candidate has knowledge and skills necessary to select, connect, configure, and troubleshoot various networking devices. This would include the following capabilities: Extending Switched Networks with VLANS, Determining IP Routes, Managing IP traffic with Access Lists, and establishing Point-to-Point connections. The candidate must also have the ability to configure and manage fundamental implementations of Check Point's FireWall products, as an enterprise level Internet security solution to protect public and internal networks. The candidate must possess the requisite skills to define and configure security policies that enable secure access to information across public and internal networks. In addition to these essential skills, the candidate must also have the ability to monitor network security activity and implement measures to block intruder access to networks. Finally, the Senior Network Engineer will proactively manage the network infrastructure through best monitoring practices and will ensure capacity trending and planning occurs. Documenting the current network topology and keeping up-to-date diagrams is critical in maintaining and managing our network environment

Required Qualifications
Technical Requirements. Must be able to demonstrate detailed technical knowledge in all of the following areas:

Planning & Designing

  • Extensive knowledge of differences and functionality of various LAN technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of basic routing protocols, Specifically TCP/IP
  • Intermediate knowledge of design and best practices with Access lists
  • Extensive knowledge with telecommunication carrier technologies such as DS-1, DS-3, OC-3, OC-12, Gigabit Ethernet

    Implementation & Operation

  • Configuration of routing protocols
  • Configuration of IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateway addresses
  • Configuration of additional administrative functionality
  • Configuration of VLANS and inter-switch communication
  • Configuration and Management of system and device configurations

    Troubleshooting

  • Utilize the OSI model as a guide for systematic network troubleshooting
  • Perform LAN and VLAN troubleshooting
  • Perform Troubleshooting of basic routing protocols
