Position Summary:

This individual will be a key member of the biology/bioinformatics team within Research Systems. Responsibilities include software evaluation, development, and support for biology systems used within Discovery. This person will interface with our research scientists to evaluate emerging software needs and assist in the design and development of new applications. Additional responsibilities will include the support of deployed systems used for data creation, storage, and analysis. The candidate will be responsible for interacting with existing engineering staff and our IT Infrastructure & Operations group, as necessary, to achieve project goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This individual will be the primary technical interface and provide software solutions as well as support to several critical functions within Discovery. These functions include but are not limited to Computational Biology, Oncology Research, and Discovery Technologies. In this role the incumbent will be required to interact with a diverse set of individuals from a variety of scientific disciplines. The incumbent must be able to translate scientific requirements into effective software solutions either through new development activities or by sourcing commercial products. This position will work closely with R&D department personnel and key members of various Information Technology teams to provide technical input for new projects as well as to support existing systems.

Qualifications:

BS/BA in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience. Proficiency with J2EE, Servlets, JSP, JSF, JDBC, Jbuilder, Apache, Tomcat and Oracle is expected. Development experience with VS2005 and the .NET framework is strongly desired. Excellent communication skills and a basic knowledge of scientific principles is required. Prior experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries is a plus.
