Description
This position requires expert-level technical knowledge in Unix operating systems and their related systems software and hardware. The individual uses this expertise to install, configure, test, and maintain Unix development, test and production systems. This position also leverages the knowledge of this senior role with decisions of technical direction and future deployment strategy of Unix server related technology, ensures proper systems operations and implements proactive measures to ensure availability, reliability, and performance and cost goals are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates expert knowledge in all areas related to platform specific technologies. Possess broad knowledge related to systems, systems utilities, and tools used to install, configure, and maintain operating and network systems, systems software and hardware. Develops the technical skills of all team members.
2. Responsible for maintaining, configuring, reviewing and analyzing operating systems, systems software, and hardware failures. Troubleshoots, analyzes, and reviews application and system failures and other critical problems. Possesses a high-level understanding of business process flows and corresponding application and system components. Maintains knowledge and sufficient skills for Project Management. Manages the technical delivery of organizational wide technology projects involving multiple departments and business units.

3. Maintains contact with outside organizations for maintenance, services, and support. Evaluates vendor products pertaining to software and hardware.

4. Ensures team accountability for Business Recovery documentation and system recovery objectives.

5. Provides advanced third level technical support for technology infrastructure and customer issues and requests. Provides knowledge, training, and solution sets to first level support teams to improve first call resolution and customer satisfaction.

6. Responsible for providing best in class customer care. Exhibits customer advocacy working within enterprise guidelines. Demonstrates expert-level understanding of key business processes of partners and customers.

7. Demonstrates expert technical skills in client, systems management, security, applications and networking. Provides support and ensures reliability for deployed technologies, systems and processes according to established procedures and industry best practices. Formulates strategies, makes recommendations, and implements necessary changes to ensure ongoing successful execution.

8. Evaluates and responds to customer issues/requests. Handles complex or high-impact issues. Provides leadership and coordinates trending and analysis efforts to effectively resolve high severity and reoccurring issues.

9. Works with all organization levels to minimize and/or eliminate customer impact, prevent problem reoccurrence and improve service. Reviews service levels of deployed systems and processes in regards to reliability, availability and 10. Stays abreast of industry trends and best practices. Proactively identifies opportunities to leverage technology, improve processes and enhance vendor relations to reduce cost and increase customer satisfaction. Develops team strategies.

11. Participates in 24 by 7 on-call support on a rotating basis.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Senior level knowledge of Sun Solaris 8 OS and higher, Sun hardware, in both virtual and stand alone configurations. Veritas Cluster and Volume Manager, IBM AIX 5.x, Linux, Sun Clustering, IBM Clustering (HACMP), advanced shell scripting, performance tuning, Sun virtualization a plus.
