Sr. Database Administrator/ Architect

 

IC System, Inc. is positioned to become the leader in collections for many industries including Healthcare, Financial services. System availability, data security and orderly change are three principle themes in reaching the company’s goals.

The Database Architect is the most senior position for the data areas of Information Systems (IS) at IC System, Inc. Key responsibilities include:

·        Monitor servers employed as data infrastructure including software, updates, and service packs.

·        Establish Security Roles and Membership through Active Directory and related SQL Server tools.

·        Strategic Design, Planning and Implementation of:

§         Recoverability (backups and related solutions)

§         Availability

§         Scalability

§         Capacity

§         Security

§         Data Quality

§         Best Practices

Duties include

·        Leadership of Data Team including DBA(s)

·        Mentoring of Development, IS and IT Staff

·        Design and Implementation of ETL processes to/from legacy systems using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), scripting and other technologies

·        Participate in the Change Management process

·        Supporting and assisting data-user Community (Report Writing, Software Development etc)

Required Skills

Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 Enterprise Edition Specific Skills

·        Creating Backups using native/built-in tools

·        Deep knowledge of provided tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQLCMD, BCP, DTSRUN and all the other tools.

·        Performance Monitoring

·        Design  and Creation of Enterprise Level ETL packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) including complex deployment scenarios

·        Creating and Managing SQL Agent Jobs

·        Performance troubleshooting using SQL Profiler, Perfmon and other performance tools

·        Managing Security with respect to roles, permissions and integration to Active Directory

·        Installing, monitoring and maintaining Failover Clustering, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping and Replication

·        Assisting IT with Integration to Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM)

·        Use of Table Partitioning (SQL 2005 and up) and/or Federated Database Servers using Distributed Partitioned Views (DPVs) for Very Large Databases (VLDBs)

·        Has worked with Database Mail instead of the older SQL Mail facility

·        Fundamental .NET Framework knowledge (v2.0 and higher)

 

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

·        General Reporting Writing

·        Deployment

·        Migration Techniques

·        Security

Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)

·        Support generation of cubes

·        Assist with MDX Queries as needed to help development effort

·        Troubleshoot performance issues specific to SSAS

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

·        Improving existing packages and designs

·        Provide additional consolidated logging and exception management

·        Create and Manage SSIS Template(s)

·        Assist in troubleshooting SSIS specific issues

Microsoft SQL Server Service Broker

·         Create and Manage Endpoints for SOA services

·         Monitor Performance and Usage statistics

 

General Data Skills

·        Expert knowledge of MS SQL Server’s core architecture, capacities, capabilities, strengths and weaknesses

·        Expert knowledge of T-SQL Language. Able to provide code review resource to developers and others writing in the native T-SQL language.

·        Data modeling for both Logical and Physical data models for both OLTP and OLAP designs using IDEF1X or similar methodology

·        Capacity planning in accordance with the Data Retention policies and requirements

Soft Skills

·        Ability to easily work other teams, stakeholders etc

·        Work well in a higher-than-average-level of stress

·        Setting goals and direction for the Data Services group

·        Maintain a professional, helpful, service-oriented attitude



Experience/Skills

Required Experience

Previous verifiable experience is required as follows:

·        10+ Years in the role as a Database Administrator (DBA) for Microsoft SQL Server environments which includes monitoring and maintaining at least 10 servers at the same time

·        3+ Years on the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 platform

·        5+ Years in a Clustered Environment. Experience with Active/Active is specifically required.

·        5+ Years in a Data Warehouse Environment using the Kimball approach

·        3+ years of getting work done through people. These typically include titles such as Team Lead, Manager or other clearly identifiable leadership experience

·        Routine use of ERWin or ER/Studio for Data Modeling

Additional Experience—(helpful but not required)

·        Oracle 8.1.x or Higher

·        Visio (any data aware version)

·        Caché

·        Other ETL tools, Scripting Languages etc
