R&D Engineer - Sustaining Engineering (Electrical)

Description:
Responsible for supporting the design of existing commercialized electrical / electronic / mechanical systems consisting of instrumentation, power, and control for use in medical device capital equipment, as well as disposable products.

Required Skills / Responsibilities include:
- Experience in using electronic design tools such as AutoCAD, OrCad.
- Ability to design harnesses and cable and connector systems for medical device manufacturing applications. Experience in this area highly desired.
- Develop new drawings and modify existing drawings, ensure that all drawings are properly approved and controlled.
- Execute conceptual designs, detailed design, and release of products to manufacturing.
- Create engineering/production schematics.
- Capable to review design changes to determine validity and solutions to product problems; generates Change Requests (CRs) for document revisions and reworks on existing products. Sign off on all CRs which revise product, specifications, materials, components, assemblies, processes, or documentation involving electrical issues.
- Identifying alternate sources of materials and components to replace items no longer available, where this activity is beyond the scope of Purchasing.
- Responsible for evaluating proposed drawing deviations by suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Research and test of electronic products and systems, including packaging and labeling.
- Work closely with Operations, ensuring product specifications are being met; work with Production, Quality (Complaint Handling), Regulatory, Field Service, and OEM suppliers for resolving electrical-related problems.
- Perform critical measurements, designing and executing validation and verification tests to ensure reliability and functionality.
- Able to perform logical problem solving and analysis, establishing root causes and critical relationships of cause and effect.

Requirements:
- Experienced in troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Knowledge of grounding, shielding and system noise immunity techniques.
- Knowledge of EMC, ESD, and Safety Testing and regulatory agency certification experience.
- Experience with electrical and electronic design tools as well as MS Office applications is required.
- BSEE or equivalent with 5 or more years related experience.df-tc
