Location: Herndon, VA 20170
5 month contract to hire OR direct hire

Position Description

Senior Hosted Exchange Architect position is the senior-most level of Exchange engineer within the corporation. As a member of the Engineering and R&D Team the Exchange Architect is responsible for pre-production R&D to improve existing production environments and to explore new technologies that will expand the suite of products and services. The Exchange Architect is responsible for developing, testing, and implementing all aspects of a large hosted multi-tenant Exchange and SharePoint environment across multiple data centers. Additionally, the Architectural Engineer may support the triaging of problems and the designing of solutions in support of the Data Center Operational teams or members of the Software Engineering team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for developing hosted Exchange and SharePoint architecture, create and maintain standards around Exchange and SharePoint systems architecture, naming conventions, operations best practices. Evaluation and integration of products such as Office Communications Server, Unified Messaging, Active Directory, Conferencing services, Windows SharePoint services, MOSS, and other third-party COTS products will be an integral part of this position.
??? Support development of Hosted services offerings.
o Design, test, and implement latest service packs and revisions of Exchange, SharePoint (WSS and MOSS), OCS, Windows Server and related systems across multiple data centers.
o Develop all build and installation documentation and support testing and revision of documentation
o Ensure that standards for integrating, monitoring and reporting of new services are documented, conform to operational standards and are transitioned to Ops with the new service.
o Interface with software development resources to automate provisioning of new services for customers and users, including developing service configuration objects using the software developer's kit.
??? As needed, be available to provide Level 3 support for applications.
o Provide and/or Coordinate with appropriate engineering resources for problem resolution
o Manage vendor technical support and level 4 escalations to vendors.
o Analyze customer requirements and develop technical solution.
o Support customer presentations of hosted solutions
o Will perform specific customer environment implementations
??? Research and development of hardware/software solutions to improve existing services/functions or for new products/services that Apptix might offer
??? Document network, server, application configurations and image builds for all new (and existing) systems; a combination of Engineering and Operations personnel actually perform the production build but design/build docs are initiated/created by Engineering
??? Continuously operate and maintain multiple test lab systems to simulate production environments; perform testing on all new updates and patches within lab prior to deployment in production environments

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
??? MCSE preferred
??? BS, CS, MIS or related degree or relevant experience
??? 8+ years experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange, SharePoint in an enterprise (1000+ users) production environment
??? Excellent communication and team skills required
??? Change management and configuration management experience
??? Strong documentation, system build, and system imaging skills
??? Required technical experience should encompass knowledge of:
o EXPERT level knowledge of Active Directory
o EXPERT level knowledge of Windows 2003 Server/Advanced Server
o EXPERT level knowledge of Exchange 2007
o SharePoint 2003/2007, WSS 2.0/3.0
o EXPERT level knowledge of Microsoft Cluster Services
o Storage Management
o Veritas Backup Exec or Other Backup/Restore Technologies
o EXPERT level knowledge of Outlook 2003/2007
o Internet Information Server (IIS)
o TCP/IP, virtual private networks, virtual LANs in a complex server farm environment
o Hardware installation and repair (HP, IBM, Dell)
??? Desired technical experience includes:
o Microsoft SQL Server
o Microsoft Office Communications Server
o Microsoft Operations Manager (or Systems Operations Center)
