Description
The Senior Information Architect merges various disciplines, such as UI Design, Development, Usability, Strategy and Information Science, to define and execute the structural and user experience aspects of large, complex, web-based projects. The Senior Information Architect translates client business processes, rules and strategies into functional requirements, defines and represents the users needs, understands the technical environment and authors the documentation that serves as the blueprint for site development, content management and QA by the various members of a project team.
While the Senior Information Architect is not responsible for determining the system architecture as a whole, a key part of the Senior Information Architect's responsibility lies in planning the manner in which the front-end of the site will interact with the underlying systems.

Responsibilities: Understand and document existing client business processes and rules Understand and document relationships and dependencies among multiple client Internet properties Translate client business strategies into functional design Plan and facilitate IA-focused client work sessions Assess and document current site functionality and structure Plan and execute user research and usability testing Analyze user tasks, develop task models and create usage scenarios Define user requirements Define site functionality, site architecture, navigation, interaction and data flow Work with designers, technologists, and user researchers to ensure that the user interface reflects client, user and design requirements Work with members of the technology team to ensure that the available technology and proposed functionality are aligned Direct and/or lead the creation of various types of deliverables Direct and/or lead the creation of presentation materials Establish indexing and organizational schemes for QA, asset management and change management Contribute to the overall strategic direction and vision of the project Manage and direct Information Architects on the project team Monitor and direct the work of outside consultants and vendors as appropriate

Experience/Skills
Requirements: 4+ years of information architecture, human-computer interaction or usability experience with a Web focus Strong problem-solving skills, an investigative mentality and a capacity for strategic and associative thinking A strong understanding of design process and dependencies Experience with user-centered design methods and research techniques, such as interviewing and observations Knowledge of Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel and Project; Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; HTML page creation tools An understanding of Internet technologies, including DBs, e-commerce, client-server and front-end technologies like HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, DHTML, CSS and ActiveX Hands-on experience in web development, including hand-coded html, graphic asset production and some client or server-side scripting Strong business acumen with a focus on strategic analysis Superb oral and written communication skills Proven experience in leading and being a part of multidisciplinary team Some project or team management experience
