Description
The Software Engineer (SE) is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, testing, and deployment of aviation-based software application systems. Tasks associated with this position are assigned by a Project/Product Manager who coordinates priorities and assists in the overall product development lifecycle. The SE works within a team of developers who enhance product functionality, validating their contributions with the help of a QA Analyst.Principal Duties and Responsibilities are and not limited to:• Create design documentation based on requirements obtained by Project Managers, Customers, Marketing, Business Analysts, etc. Research, analyze, and document appropriate technologies as they can best be applied to specific business objectives.• Generate and maintain appropriate processing flow charts, diagrams, tables, and other supporting documentation per established software design methodologies. Utilize this documentation to convey proposed design alternatives, organize problem analysis efforts, and to augment software design specifications. • Examine and update functional design specification documentation to ensure a sufficient level of detail is available to facilitate software coding.• Participate in design review meetings, where proposed solutions are presented, and feedback is solicited from all attendees.• Develop software solutions that meet product requirements and design specifications. • Perform coding, debugging, and unit testing tasks consistent with the target design specification. • Provide timely status updates of design and development activities, per departmental standards and guidelines.• Supply and meet schedule estimates on design and development efforts. • Provide technical support to production environments, and assist in isolating software issues and design problems.• Follow ISO 9001 processes and procedures applicable to assigned workload.• Work closely with the Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst to achieve the highest possible level of product quality. Submit Test Plans to QA to verify successful fulfillment of functional requirements as designed and documented.• Keep current on product development techniques, relevant technology advances, and software best practices.

Experience/Skills
• 3+ years software engineering experience, with a minimum of 1 year web development• 1+ years experience with a Document Management System (i.e. Documentum)• Solid experience developing Java J2EE application systems• Experience coding JSP, Servlets, and JavaScript• Full understanding of HTML, CSS, XML, XSL, and related technologies• Good working knowledge of Windows OS, SQL Databases, and MS.NET• Well versed in Systems Development Lifecycle principles, concepts, and methodologies• Proficient with Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) – i.e. JBuilder, Eclipse, etc.• Familiar with Web Application Servers such as Tomcat, BEA WebLogic, WebSphere, etc.• Workflow system design, development, and implementation is a plus• Familiarity with SGML data, technical publications, and the aviation industry is desired• Bachelors degree in a technical field is preferred
