Description
Our client is software development company located in the Bay Area that specializes in developing applications for the growing transportation and logistics industry. They are in search of a Sr. Linux Engineer for a full-time employee position complete with a competitive annual salary and very comprehensive benefits package including 3 weeks of PTO (personal time off) plus the week off between Christmas and New Years, and generous stock options.

Looking for a talented Linux Engineer with a combination of great analytical, technical, and communication skills to manage 40+ Linux systems in a distributed computing environment. Selected responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

--> Manage 40+ Linux/Windows systems in a distributed computing environment.
--> Configure system and network parameters. Monitor system stability and performance. Help ensure 24x7 operations.
--> Evaluate new technology. Assist with the planning and design of future systems architecture to allow rapid scaling to meet demand.
--> Develop and maintain documentation related to the installation, administration, and maintenance of multiple Linux/Windows systems in a distributed computing environment.
--> Monitor, evaluate, and solve potential hardware and software performance issues. Manage Linux/Windows-related and other network requests and problems.

Experience/Skills
--> 5+ years experience administering Linux systems in a distributed computing environment including network/system administration experience in a mixed Linux/Windows environment.
--> Strong understanding of and ability to implement clustering and other high availability methods. Such as: Linux Clustering Suite, Linux Load balancing, and LVS(Linux Virtual Server).
--> Understanding of TCP/IP networking, familiarity with common networking devices, and the ability to use tools such as SNMP and TCPdump to monitor activity, diagnose problems, and optimize performance.
--> Installation and configuration experience of web and application servers, i.e. Apache, JBoss, Tomcat, firewalls/security, NIS/NFS, DNS, MTAs.
--> Proven ability to build a secure environment using latest methods including system hardening.
--> Working knowledge of NAS and SAN technologies; preferably experience with NetApp.
--> Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution.
--> Basic scripting ability in Shell, PHP, Perl, or Python.
--> Strong verbal and written communication skills
--> Previous experience in a start-up type, fast-paced, rapidly-changing systems environment would be ideal
