Senior Microsoft Exchange Engineer

Job Summary

Support and maintain Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 government e-mail and related servers, and directory services as needed, to include maintaining the e-mail environments, researching, planning, implementing, and supporting new technologies, and responding to problems as they arise, whether isolated to a single user or system-wide. The design, installation, administration, and the various business applications supported by tuning the Servers as necessary, to include ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. Assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server farm, where applicable.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Support and maintain enterprise e-mail systems, as well as anti-virus, anti-spam, at server and client levels.
• Ensure reliable server backups and maintain written backup logs.
• Develop, document, and perform approved maintenance plans.
• Develop, document, and implement approved engineering efforts.
• Develop and test step-by-step instructions for performing maintenance and upgrade tasks.
• Research, test, document, and implement new products.
• Perform scheduled weekend and after-hours work, as well as after-hours emergency work, as required.

Required Skills

• MCSE or relevant experience.
• Knowledge of common Network Operating Systems, Desktop Operating Systems, and Email Server Systems, Microsoft Windows Systems, Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and/or 2007.
• Working knowledge of other server-based software packages including Symantec Antivirus, Blackberry Enterprise Server, and NetBackup.
• Experience engineering/sizing, installing, configuring, and maintaining windows servers.
• Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Strong familiarity with TCP/IP protocol, ISA Firewall management, and operating system configuration.
• General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN and NAS, capability programming in a Scripting language such as VBScript, Jscript and/or Kixstart.
• Ability to assess performance data and determine system bottlenecks.
• IronPort and/or Tumbleweed experience or experience with enterprise level anti-spam, anti-virus, and e-mail encryption products, is desirable.
• Work effectively both independently and in a team environment.

Education/Experience

Eight (8) years of related experience with equivalent training. Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related analytical, scientific or technical disciplines preferred.
