Sr. / Principal Database Engineer - Windows SQL Server / Oracle

Our client is developing software applications that allow people to share personal video clips with friends online both privately and publicly. We are looking for a Sr. /Principal Database Engineer to join our team and to work on exciting bleeding-edge projects in the digital video creation, discovery and sharing space. You will be a senior member of both the development and operations teams. This role will include architecture and administration responsibilities. The position will be responsible for design, implementation and 24X7 support of mission critical database systems.

Responsibilities:
- Design and Operate the database systems (MS SQL Server Cluster)
- Participate in the development of and tuning of database queries, schemas, plans, etc.
- Troubleshoot and provide 24x7 support for database
- Work directly with Product, Development and Operations teams to ensure effective and scalable execution of database dependent features and technology
- Provide input into and directly participate in performance tuning of .NET application logic.
- Monitoring, administration and capacity management of all production database components.
- Ensure data protection best practices are maintained and design/install/scale solutions to accommodate future growth.
- Disaster prevention and recovery.

Experience:
- Expert with SQL, SQL Server, and Windows applications (c# VB.net, ASP.net) performance tuning.
- Expert with MS SQL components and related systems (backups, scripting, performance management, etc.).
- Expert with Windows XP/2003 platforms including detailed understanding of Operating System internals.
- Expert with database structures (e.g. plans, index, query optimization, etc.) including schema management, refactoring, Query optimization, Merge, Partitioning and performance tuning.
- Experience with scaling high transactions 24x7 databases
- Experience with other DB platforms (e.g. Oracle).
- Experience with 2000/2003 and Active Directory security.
- Some experience managing Windows 2003 a plus.
- Willing to be on call (and respond) 24*7
- 10+ years experience with database design, development and administration
- Experience managing enterprise scale database clusters with MS SQL server
- Experience writing and/or working with c# VB.net, ASP.net applications.
- Excellent objected- oriented design techniques and data modeling approaches
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to produce usable and maintainable documentation
- Demonstrated problem solving abilities and initiative
- Ability to deliver projects on schedule

Education:
- Academic Degree and industry certification holders will have an advantage in the selection process.
- Computer science or MIS degree required
