SUMMARY:
Provide technical support and engineering support for the SAN/Server environment, using operating systems and a variety of application software. Maintain adequate knowledge of existing hardware and software in use to maximize efficiency of the Servers and users' utilization of them. Provide written documents that evaluate server information on periodic intervals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of hardware and software installation, testing, and operation of server products as demonstrated by work experience or education. Special Qualifications for this position: SAN administration, implementation and support, including Tier 1 and Tier 2 storage experience or education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage, administer and maintain Storage Infrastructure, including DASD, NAS, FC, and iSCSI connected storage.
Contribute direction and leadership to SAN related initiatives.
Evaluate storage industry developments and advise on adoption as appropriate.
Support Host-to-Storage connectivity via FC SAN fabric, iSCSI, or other emerging technologies.
Support DR strategy as it applies to SAN-based replication technologies.
Aid in backup strategies that involve SAN-base Snapshot technologies.
Verify that backups are performed, periodically test tapes for accuracy, and perform restore operations when requested.
Work with Network Administrator to evaluate server needs and load balancing on the system.
Work with DBA to evaluate server needs and load balancing on the system.
Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating system and application software being used to provide high levels of support to users.
Monitors and assists systems security; collaborates with DBA s concerning data security.
Install new software applications or hardware in the server environment, coordinating assistance from third parties when necessary.
Provide for efficient server operation, including total throughput, CPU use, peripheral operation, and application performance statistics.
Assist in providing computer support relating to software and hardware problems reported by users.
Coordinate software upgrades with application development, vendors, and Team leads as necessary.
Manage technical performance improvement programs, stressing quality control of service to clients.
Coordinates third-party maintenance for network equipment and troubleshoots problems with department users and department network administrators
Performs and oversees configuration management, documentation control, and equipment inventory activities.
Be "on-call" for all periods as assigned by manager and participate in off-hours upgrades and production maintenance.
Participate in the change control process, in conjunction with team members and clients, to ensure efficient processing.
Communication to end-users, management, and any call/problem tracking system regarding status of reported problems/projects.
Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.
