Unix Systems Administrator

Summary
Responsible for the analysis, acquisition, installation, performance monitoring, capacity planning, modification and support of hardware, operating systems, databases, utilities, and internet/intranet-related tools. Researches new technologies and their potential match to business solutions.

Responsibilities
· Manages infrastructure resources by monitoring server processes, hardware utilization, application and database performance and by allocating infrastructure resources as required.
· Troubleshoots and resolves infrastructure service failures by analyzing the situation and initiating corrective or alternative actions.
· Ensures system availability and integrity by developing and executing validated system management and component deployment processes.
· Designs and implements infrastructure architecture solutions by working with systems development teams and external hardware/software vendors to assure that infrastructure designed accurately and completely meets the Requirements Specification.
· Develops system management utility programs and interfaces by completing program design, coding, debugging and documentation.
· Upgrades infrastructure components by researching, testing and installing hardware, operating system, database and application upgrades and patches.
· Tests infrastructure architecture by preparing and conducting system and programming tests requiring interfacing of hardware and software.
· Researches emerging infrastructure technologies and processes by reviewing white-papers, attending conferences, coordinating project demonstrations, and preparing recommendations for business solutions
· Protects infrastructure resources by designing and executing system backups that allow lost data to be recovered quickly and completely and by safeguarding against internal and external security threats in the form of software codes (viruses) or processes (post attack).
· May be required to perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus10+ years of related work experience with a good understanding of specified functional area, or Master's degree with5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Three years experience as a Unix system administrator with Sun Solaris or IBM AIX.
Experience with any of the following desirable: AIX LPARs, AIX VIO, Solaris LDOMS, Solaris Zones, Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Cluster Server, AIX NIM, Solaris Jumpstart, NIS, LDAP, Shell Scripting, Perl, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.df-tc
