Description:
The senior VMware engineer will assist in the analysis, project development, implementation and virtualization of an enterprise Intel-based server farm. The consultant will serve as a Project Manager and subject matter expert and is required to have a complete familiarity with VMware server to include installation, configuration,
maintenance, and upgrade capabilities. Virtual machines in the environment will host a large variety of applications, both off-the-shelf and custom applications. A strong general knowledge of large user environment configurations to include user management best practices, Hierarchical Storage Management configurations, and complete backup and restoration capabilities is required. Must have experience with clustering, HA/GEO and DRS configuration across multiple hardware and virtual platforms.
Key Skills Required:
Viable candidates must have prior experience and expertise planning and implementing a physical to virtual migration of services using current VMware and blade server technology in a large organization. Other skills include:
In depth, expert level knowledge of VMware products: VMware Infrastructure 3.5, VirtualCenter, etc
Strong working knowledge of the Windows 2003 operating system environment
In depth understanding of supporting technologies, such as IIS, WINS/DHCP/DNS, Anti-Virus, Systems
Management, Optimization Tuning, High Availability configurations (Microsoft Clustering, etc.)
Thorough understanding of enterprise data center technologies, including networking, security, TCP/IP,
SAN and NAS, physical data center practices
Experience with documentation for system builds, configurations, support procedures, etc.
Experience supporting complex technical environments
Professional, business-focused attitude and courteous manner towards clients, partners, and peers
Ability to communicate and present ideas to technical staff and management concisely
Extensive experience with HP and Dell hardware platforms
Experience with project management methodologies to organize and direct a multidisciplinary team
Experience with developing project plans, scopes, and timelines

VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) on Infrastructure 3
VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) 2003

Expected Duties:
Analyze current environment, conduct gap analysis and make recommendations on the options and methods for virtualization
Develop project plan with accurate project dependencies, timelines, risk assessments and milestones
Install and configure blade server components in data center racks
Install and configure Windows 2003 operating system using standard imaging technology
Setup new VMware Servers
ESX Server provisioning via VirtualCenter
Virtual machine creation and configuration
Migration of existing VM environment (Hot & Cold)
Cloning of virtual machines
Configuration of VMware High Availability (HA)
Configuration of VMware Distributed Resource Schedule (DRS)
Assure virtual Servers are properly integrated with existing SAN environment
Design and configuration of shared storage for VMware clustering
Configure and setup VMware clustering
Implement and configure VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) and assure integration with enterprise
Tivoli storage management backup solution
Server provisioning per client requirements via Virtual Center
Recommend design, implementation, and configuration best practices to optimize new virtual environment Train permanent technical staff in the use of all new management tools and utilities Transition ongoing management of new virtual environment to permanent technical staff
