Sr. WAN Engineer

Ideal candidate would have some experience as an ISP Service provider or Level 3 network support experience.

5+ years BGP, OSPF, MPLS, LDP, Sonet, Frame Relay, T1, DS3, VLANs, POS, PPP, OCx, IP routing, Cisco IOS

This role is responsible for designing, rollout, and ongoing enhancement of the production network. This individual will be an integral member of the networking team. The Sr. WAN engineer will provide top-level support for the network including the backbone, IDC network, peering, and transport network infrastructure. Duties include troubleshooting complex problems that do not have established procedures, maintaining and recommending improvements to the production network, assisting in the professional development of teammates, providing training opportunities when required, documentation of the network and modifications, assignment to ad-hoc virtual team working on high-priority projects, and performing other related duties as required.

Position Qualifications Required

Protocols
BGP, OSPF, MPLS TE, RFC2547 VPNs, L2 Ethernet switching
TDM circuit-switched technologies, SONET/POS, PPP, Frame Relay
DWDM transport technology knowledge & admin experience desirable
Complex routing-policies characteristic of the service provider industry

Products
Cisco distributed route/switch systems (Cat6500/7600, XR12000, ASR, CRS-1 families)
Cisco IOS/XR and JunOS required, Foundry knowledge is a plus

Industry Knowledge
Management of peering/IX/NAP issues
Expert understanding of contemporary network architectures
Expert understanding of networking security protocols and procedures
Deep understanding of network scaling and capacity issues

Soft Skills
Communicates effectively, professionally, tactfully, and confidently with customers
Orderly documentation, presentation, and training skills
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and assigned operations tasks simultaneously
Challenges others to develop as engineers while serving as a leader and role model

Experience
5-7 years previous service provider experience required
Experience in a service provider design capacity
Experience in a top tier support role desirable

Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field is desirable
