SUMMARY Seeking highly creative and motivated graphic designer to join professional Web design team in developing Web sites for Laboratory customers. This person reports to the Webteam Leader in the IM-1 Communication Arts and Services group. Selected person works closely with the Lab's scientific and managerial staff to elicit information; target audience; research, plan, and develop site architecture based on objectives and audience. This job involves investigation of policies and procedures, exploration of alternative courses of action, and formulation and presentation of recommendations to management. Works with client-side technologies such as javascript, css, etc. Prepares art for Web projects. Manages and coordinates all aspects of large, long-range Web publication efforts. Implements standards and guideline to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Laboratory communications. Presents initial proposals, tracks job progress, and reports on progress to client. Directs and coordinates work with others involved in the Web publication effort and works as an effective member of project teams including editors, programmers, and graphic artists. Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS Project management experience demonstrated through the direction and responsibility for numerous complex Web projects involving a number of components-support personnel, budget, and schedule. Demonstrated experience using advanced design and typography principles-information levels and order of reading, symbology, and branding. Demonstrated experience solving cross-browser and cross-platform issues; color management for online publication; usability issues including navigation and design for accessibility. Must be experienced on MAC & PC. Ability to work independently with clients who are often members of management. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to use professional judgment and skills to resolve difficult problems unique to each project. Demonstrated proficiency and innovation in the use of client-side languages (e.g. HTML, CSS, and Javascript). Demonstrated Web authoring and graphics applications (Photoshop, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver/Golive, etc.). Demonstrated expertise in planning and developing site architecture, including use of site or server statistics and usability testing during design process. Demonstrated skills in constructive communication, conflict resolution, and tactful interactions with customers, team members, and managers. Demonstrated ability to work within corporate design standards and templates. DESIRED SKILLS Knowledge of basic server-side technologies (e.g., UNIX command line, server-side includes, redirection, password protection,etc.). Demonstrated proficiency and innovation in the use of state-of-the-art Web technologies (e.g., Perl, Javascript, PHP, UNIX, etc.). Experience with relational databases (MySql,PosgreSQL) a plus. Knowledge of Flash a plus. This position requires a Q access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
