JOB DESCRIPTION
Staff QA Engineer

Santa Barbara



Senior level QA engineer with broad experience assigned to lead the testing of complex production software.

Utilizes creativity, process and product knowledge, and practical experience in leading others to complete tasks in an effective and timely manner. Plans and executes testing with little to no guidance.



Has gained progressive recognition as a specialist in multiple fields, assumed increasing responsibility as the technical and architectural leader in a group or team, and advises on design and development approach. May work as part of a team in an agile/scrum environment and is accountable to the rest of the team for delivering on routine planned commitments within each sprint. Ensures that quality standards and testing best practices are met by this team as well as other teams that they may advise; test automation is applied where possible, testability concerns are addressed, and documentation and test artifacts are created.



Provides leadership and coordination across multiple concurrent projects where both broad and in-depth analyses are required. Identifies and manages dependencies between teams to enable successful delivery of commitments. Responsible for schedules, estimates, test plans, and reporting of status for projects. May manage other QA team members??? work and provide input into their reviews.

Helps realize improvements to our Agile development practices by researching industry practices and technical trends.



This level is the "branch point" from which individuals normally move up either a primarily technical, or a primarily management career path.





Qualifications and Requirements

??? BS or MS degree or equivalent in a technical field preferred, with at least 7 years of directly related work experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for formal education.

??? At-least 3 years of experience in Web/Software Product Release Cycle

??? Demonstrates testing domain knowledge of one or more of the following:

o Video and multi-media applications testing; Familiarity with video and audio protocols.

o Flash and mobile device testing; Experience with Flex Builder, ActionScript and VBScript desired.

o Web based commerce/transaction systems and database testing.

o Internationalization and localization testing.

??? Hands-on test planning, test design and execution required.

??? Hands-on Test Automation experience required (commercial or homegrown test frameworks)

??? Hands-on Programming skills ??? Knowledge of programming constructs, data structures and algorithms; Java preferred; Scripting languages (Perl, Python, AppleScript, etc.)

??? Knowledge of Hardware and Setting up of Test Environments ??? Expert level knowledge of Windows and Mac OS as well as native applications including installation and configuration. Good UNIX knowledge.

??? Solid understanding of web based software/protocols, database, and networking concepts.

??? Agile/Scrum experience desired.

??? Excellent communication skills a must.

??? Thorough knowledge of release procedures and software defect tracking

??? Demonstrated success as leader of a product test team working on several projects related to a major release.
